ok , so i bought a used blackberry 7730 , ok its a oldish phone , but good condition , its open on all networks , so the idea was i put my t mobile payg sim in , and bingo ..... er no ...after a few hours messing about trying to make a call and send a sms , i decided to ring t mobile , the first thing they did was check the imei number against a database to see if it was blacklisted .... no it wasnt ....he tried very hard to get to talk me through the settings , but to no avail , finally he suggested i took it to my local t mobile shop for them to " configure it " ..... surely it shouldnt be that difficult to make a call fgs ? .......HELP

A very very good phone in its time. they reckon that kicked off the smart phone revolution

I reckon its blacklisted because it was made and registered before blacklists were invented so it just doesnt figure on one !

Theres some very good deals on around the place for £10 a month with virgin or pay as you go for all networks on the more modern blackberrys.

pete, ask your grand kids, they will know how it works,:thumb2
and i know what you mean about the instructions, :doh

i resisted the temptation to throw it across the lounge a few minutes ago ..... patience peter , patience

does you network provider support Blackberrys ?

have you told them you wish to use a blackberry on that number ?

Is the Blackberry an Enterprise version ?

i dont think Pete is using any Blackberry features, just the phone.

if you are showing GPRS, a signla and to mobile, this means you can see the provider. If you are seeing "emergency calls only" i always thought that was a credit issue.

you could try a full factory reset of the phone but id be very surprised if this hasnt already been done...

bin the old ****er and get one that sets up for you :thumb2

id love to daved , but cant find one cheap enough , couldnt get hold of you quick enough for the one you had :(

Hi. Been using BlackBerry's for seven years now, corporate & personal.

So, basics:

Did the seller indicate if the model was an Enterprise or Prosumer model? The former may be referred to as a BES model, the latter as BWC or BIS.

If the answer is Enterprise or BES, then you have a corporate model that is designed to work with business mail servers. Stick it back on Ebay with 'Enterprise model' in the description & you should make some money back.

I'll be checking in for the next 14 hours or so, so we can work through this in easy stages :D

ok after a lot of trying ( and getting very frustrated ) .... i followed the advice from t mobile customer services and took it to my local t mobile shop ... to be honest , it appeared that the guy wasnt as bright as a candle , but said he new blackberry phones very well , he actually owns one ...he checked all the settings and said they were ok , and decided that there was a fault with the phone , although he wasnt specific

plus , its gonna cost me about £8 to send the fuffin phone back for a refund / replacement .... i may as well throw it in the bin , unless of course someone wants it ( cheap )

Put it on ebay as 'Spares or Repair' starting at £5 with £3 postage - they usually bite at cheap BlackBerrys.

Put "undiagnosed fault with connection" in the description along with "otherwise fully working" etc etc.

If you're feeling cheeky, put a Buy It Now price of what you paid for it...

next time Pete, buy a proper phone! what do you want to do with the phone, calls? texts? what is it you need from the phone, big screen, small screen, qwerty keypad, touchscreen...have a think then let us all know so we can give you some good ideas.
