Noticed yesterday that the old girl's tail pipe was at a jaunty angle. A furtle underneath an I find it's gone at the joint with the mid section. That would be great (only tail section needed) but there is also a hole in the back of the box so it's new mid and tail section time (the front piece was done last year).

I've searched the forum and not found a 'go to' exhaust supplier mentioned. A stainless one would be nice and I like the suggestion of building my own but to be honest, I don't have the time (let alone skills).

Other than the two sections, is there any other bits (e.g. gaskets, union bits, etc) that I need to get or is it just the two big bits?

I see Milner's have the two bits for ~£130. Any views on what they supply? Will be seeing what the local Motor Factor's charge too.

And finally, as an aside, have you heard of the 'bush winch'? It popped up on my Facebook feed. Have a Google and watch the video. Looks like a smart and simple idea to me for the green laners. But maybe that's all about getting stuck :)

Hi Glynn, I'll not publicly tell anyone not to use Milners. However below is a photo of my tailpipe, it's too dark to see the rest of the pipe. As part of my project I decided to buy a whole exhaust from them as it needed it. This is what it looks like after 12 months and 7,000 miles, it hasn't been wading or anything like that just standard road use. Also be aware that the tail and centre sections may be unique to that one supplier.

Feel free to make your own mind up. Personally if I could go back I would of had a custome stainless exhaust made.

Thanks for that. Clearly I'd be no worse of going to the local factors then. Interesting that you say different manufacturer's parts can be different shapes for notionally the same bit. Good to be forewarned.

I have a full Milner exhaust on my swb since early June last year. Looks rusty indeed, like the picture above, but no holes. Fitted perfectly, no complaints.

Local motor factor was more than triple the price. So even if the Milner one only lasts half as long, I'm still better off :)

I got the cheapest I cold find on Ebay as it was just after I got my Mav, it will be 3 years old in Feb, still looks good, had more trouble with mounts ie rubber rotting. Price was about £85 for centre & Rear 2 different suppliers

That's a point had to replace a couple of the rubber mountings that I got with the exhaust.

Regarding rusty exhausts.
When I (& Adam!) was a lad I was always told that something on a car has to go rusty & the exhaust is the cheapest bit. Hence it pays to buy better quality (ie. thicker) products & let them rot sacrificially. Not sure how this works if S.S. is used LOL.
Another 'gem' was that fitting an extra earth cable from the battery to the starter motor reduced body & exhaust rot & improved starter operation by reducing voltage drop. I've done the latter to every car I've owned for the last 40+ years & can only say that my exhausts & batteries seem to outlast every-one else’s.

Christ

I'd be fuming if I'd only done 7000 road miles and it looked like that, I've got a stainless front downpipe on mine that I fitted myself not long after I'd purchased the car and it already had a Stainless Powerflow Centre and Rear section with a lifetime guarntee that was on the vehicle when I got it.

Funny enough on the last trip out with Elty the clamp had made it's way loose on the rear section and was flopping around on just the rear rubber hanger which I cut with some snips and just threw it in the back to avoid it coming off totally and losing it or damaging it. It's in the garage at the moment and I'll be cleaning it up and polishing it before it goes back on and I'll post some pictures of the condition it's in and let you make a comparison.

I'm convinced this exhaust will outlast the rest of the truck

Yeah you get what you pay for Banshee. Stainless is the way to go if you're keeping it. That's what the mg will be getting

Well, I've gone for the local motor factors bits fitted by my new favourite tyre shop. Costwise it works out as free fitting. Stainless would be nice but time is of the essence.

Anyone look up the bush winch (admittedly it should have been a post of its own)?

Just noticed mine today as I walked up to it. The pipes fell off the back box (note sure which side of the box yet). It was at a strange angle & when I moved it with my foot it was all loose :lol
It feels heavy, like the box is attached, but the noise hasn't increased :nenau

I'll just weld some extra pipe on & have a side exit :thumbs :D

Just watch that it doesn't rattle around and break the little union for the diff breather mate

Just thought I'd update the thread.

New exhaust fitted. Manufactured by A2A. Never heard of them either. However, easily Googled. They give a good write up of themselves. :)

The exhaust itself (and I've looked at little more than the tail pipe) looks a chunky beast. So pleased so far.

Will try and remember to take a photo of it in 7 months time.

You need to wary of SS exhausts, while most will not rust (some do depends on grade) but SS is nothing like as strong as carbon steel so cheap SS tend to fracture and break up, just needed to point out SS is not the holy grail of exhausts, cost for cost I will stick with the everyday product, Rick

Mine's a Powerflow and with by rear section on the workbench at the moment I can be sure that, that's not going to crack anytime soon

Exhaust from Milner's

I just received a new exhaust (the full system, 3 pieces) from Milner's but it is somewhat different as compared to the original one (see image) - they insist it's correct - do you have any experience with this?
