I think the insurers themselves could easily enforce this by offering policies with black boxes paid for monthly in advance that are actually realistic and affordable amounts.

I believe that the stats do speak for themselves so there is a case for something to be done because at the moment we'll end up with people passing their tests and then not driving for years until they can get insurance, ok they might be more boring by then but they'll be terrible drivers!

aye i see youre point, i will never have a black bot fitted to my terrano, reason is,

they know youre speed
thay know where you are
they record stuff you probably dont know about!

it's an invasion of privacy

Well I don't want to burst your bubble, but if they really wanted to they can do that now, just take your mobile phone with you.
They can use triangulation from several transmitters to pin point your location.

In fact businesses can subscribe to this to check where their staff are, or where they say they are and check the difference :doh:doh

Yes but your insurance company are not allowed to do that with your mobile, nor do they have access to the world of CCTV camera's and NPR Camera's.

I wouldn't let my insurance company have a box fitted either but I'm sure a time will come when they are fitted to vehicles when manufactured.

that's illegal sounding :nenau

Clearly something needs to be done. There are too many young drivers having accidents and as a result, insurance is horrifically expensive for young'uns. An entire year to learn how to drive though? How long is that going to take?

More education about the results of driving like an idiot would help. Frankly for all ages. Everyone feels immune and invincible whereas if they knew how closely they were flirting with death, they might drive a bit more appropriately.

Not if there is no signal or the cells are spaced far apart like in the sticks :naughty

Alot of it is young people driving too fast and not knowing their abilities with the increased speed.

I've done it but I was lucky when things went wrong.

i think its a good idea, canada, america ect do it n have less deaths per annum:population. i also think japan's idea of a selected car of low speed & small

would stop idiots jumping into high end focus, clio whateva that they have no idea how to control the power of.

In Finland young drivers have to learn car control on skid pans, have night driving tuition and it take 3 years to qaulify for a full licence. There is more but i cant remember it all but i think they would make good racing drivers :lol

96, I go along with some of the restrictions on new drivers and well meant they are, trouble is with someone like you who has gained a lot of experience before hand it is hard on you, on the day you pass your test alongside another same age person who has only ever driven in a learner car, I know who I will be happier with as a passenger, it will be you, so you may have to accept some restrictions, like a black box in the car till you prove yourself to the insurance system (purely to keep costs down) then stuff it when insurance premiums drop, only my observations but anything to keep costs down till you start racking up no claims bonus, Rick

Just wait, now the insurance will start to go up for female driver, I bet they don't reduce the premiums for male drivers, it's a win win for the insurers :(

i just thought, i'm going to try as hard as possible to get insuranse on my t2 before a resort to getting another tempoary motor, how would 'they' fit a black box to my t2, it's not got a ecu so they couldnt record the speed that the ecu registers, as i think a lot of the black boxes work via the vehicles Can-bus system:nenau
