new clutch

sounds very good.i got quoted £360 and that was to just fit the clutch kit i had bought from milners.
needless to say i didn't go there.
did it my self in the end.

will get it done in the next couple of weeks then. before it does the gearbox damage

Mundy,

When a clutch gets worn, the bite point becomes later (further up the pedal).

You have either a hydraulic problem (with the slave or master cylinder or pipes) or a mechanical problem with the release mechanism of the clutch.
It could be the favourite pedal box cracking up and bending.

It still may need to come out but I would check all the external parts firs before you commit to spending the money.

I had this same problem on me old Mav it was the master cylinder. The seals wear and the fluid passes by them and does not exert full pressure/travel on the system

do the little test that sweety suggested to me.put the motor in 4th gear, leave the handbrake on and try to pull off. if it stalls the clutch is ok but if it keeps revving then the clutch is slipping and needs replacing.
do this in a safe place away from poeple and traffic.

Hi,
that is indeed a good price. As ive posted previous had mine done for £300 all in that included being picked up from my home(as it wouldnt drive at all, pedal on floor). Also came with a 2 year guarantee, but no stipulation on mileage.

Hi
forgot to mention that in order to keep the 2 YR warranty good for the clutch, it has to be returned for inspection at 500 miles, 3000 miles, 6000 miles and 12000 miles. Might be something worth bearing in mind if you take yours in to be done. Needless to say I am taking mine in at these mileages.

Cheers for help, gonna get Mr Clutch inspection tomorrow. see what they say then confirm with my mechanic friend and uncle (mechanic) see if they say the same

Hi,
with the warranty that comes with the clutch, think its a case of they put them stipulations there because how many people would actually take the vehicle back for inspection at the specified mileages. not many i wouldnt have thought.

Sounds very good. When I got my T2 one of the things I couldnt set up on the test drive was towing so as part of the haggling I checked out how much a new clutch would be if it wasnt up to it. I was quoted " at least £300" and thats from a mate. Apparently its very labour intensive.

I would love to know how they are going to look at it

I can only presume they'll dip the clutch a few times and listen for the release bearing.........and spot any other jobs that need doing !

Are there any little access holes in the bell housing etc that you could shine a torch in :?:

Mr Clutch said( well not Mr Clutch himself) that nothing wrong, and is very smooth and is biting at mid way and has had new master cylinder within last year 8O Atleast they are honest

Yes i am also led to believe that to do a T2 clutch is very labour intensive, am told that Nissan allow 7 hours to do the job. As ive said before, when had mine done they picked it up at 730in the morning, and phoned around 1 to say it was ready. Very fast, but put that down to the fact that the place is a clutch/ gearbox only place,so are rigged for doing just that.
Mundy, thats very honest of them to tell you all ok, that has to be commended in this day and age.

Clutch

Yes well done to the man at Mr Clutch  .
There should be more professional people out there, then the rest of the public would have more confidence in the trade/s.

will be getting MoT and Service done there from now on
