oh yeah you said, might have to bring mine to your bloke then, is he a mechanic?

well, Milners charge £122, and no indication if its better or worse than the one on ebay. Im going to email the ebay guy with my reg for him to check, if correct, ill buy.

I have bought clutches from victoria.only a few miles from me.disco clutch, escort van, daewoo.never had a problem. but phone em with your reg.

yeh clive hes a spanner monkey.. he has a garage out back, pays vat etc but hes cheep..

today he fit my timming belt, aircon belt, 2 fan belts, power steering belt, water pump, coolant swap, timming belt roller and tensioner for 100 quid.. ill be back there next time...

larson

I emailed victoria, yes, the clutch is correct for my car so im ordering it very soon.

Martin, iff you recommend this guy, ill call him for a price. MOneys tight as tax is due on the mazda, then next month tax is due on the Maverick, plus i have a hefty argos bill to pay too so im not 100% sure what to do yet...

guys, anything else i should do whilst the clutch is being fitted? flexi pipe?? just getting everything together so i can book it in for the work. I plant to get the garage to do my LSD oil, gear box oil, clutch fluid and possibly oil change....

how much

just making a plan to sort my clutch so going over old posts my local spanner monkey just quoted me £880 to change it he said he can fit it in early next week as he is not very busy:rolleyes: i wonder why:rolleyes: i said not to worry if i dont do it my self i will find some one cheaper, he was a bit upset when i left

I paid £150 for a clutch from Andrew Pages and £150 fitting, and Clivvy knows that place as he was riding shot gun whilst the guys from here towed me up to the garage:thumb2 Never forget that night ehh guy's.

That's not a bad price either.

The Trade value of the older Mavs and Terranos is getting to the point that you can double it's value just by putting on a set of tyres.
Or even filling the fuel tank.... :lol

If / when I need a clutch I will still sort it, as it still has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.

£880 mate hes having a larf. idiot.

I can get the correct clutch for £100 delivered, and as JIm suggests, £150 ish labour. Its four hours labour ok, so where that guys got £880 from I have no idea.

mine should get done this year, although its holding out for the moment!

he said £500 was labour the rest was parts iv priced the clutch up at £123 inc vat from local motor factors.:doh

so after fitting new fork seals to a couple of my bikes and while i was in the mood for some spannering i decided to fiddle with the clutch starting from the bottom 1st.

slave cylinder, hose then master cylinder if needed and while i was under there blanking off the damper pipe with a ball bearing as suggested on here.

so i get a new flexi hose and slave cylinder fit it all and block off the damper at the same time, bleed the clutch out nice and easy job now the dampers blocked off results the clutch pedal is still very heavy but i now have a sqeeky master cylinder so off to the motor factor for a new one.

fit that no problem re-bleed and results ???????? exactly the same :doh:doh

so it looks like at some point i will be having the clutch replaced it all works all be it a noisey spigot bearing and stiff pedal except now i have a sqeeky clutch master cylinder i did find the clutch pedal return spring broken not that it seems to need it as the pedal returns all the way up on its own with hydralic pressure from the master and slave.

got a couple of guys getting back to me on a fitting price the guy who quoted £880 said his hourly rate is £65 per hour london rates more like taking the piss rates

said his hourly rate is £65 per hour london rates more like taking the piss rates

So that's, just over a pound a minute, so if he does take a pi** then it'll cost you a fiver.... :lol:lol:lol

chap who did mine has a disc with how many hours jobs take. i think he said 9 1/2 hours. he said would take him 4 hrs.first one he did for me was gear box transfer box swap did clutch whilst off i supplied. he charged £130.00.when he did the 02 he swapped the clutch, slave and flexi i supplied, £160.00 .happy with that.

as far as I know, its a 4 hour job, so you need to speak to a mechanic who has done one before, and not one that looks in a book to get his prices from.

Do you really want a guy like that workingon your car? I wouldnt, because I suspect you'd be returning with more faults than you started with. if he hasnt done it before then there is a risk he wont put the gear box back right, or not change the spigot bearing or something like that! Its too much money to give to someone if they havent done our particular trucks.

never again

dont wory he wont be working on any of my cars again he use to be usufull doing bits on the cars while i was working just easier for me rather than taking time off he didnt do half the jobs i asked him to do and paid him for the last time he had it.

shame he has gone silly with his prices i know he has been chargeing x amount of hours and doing the work in half the time he did a top end rebuild on my old van years ago a right good job to i think he lost money on that with all the agro he had think he has been trying to skim some back since

i will just do what iv always done in the past and do it my self in future

solarman 216 ( rick ) is your local genius in the south east , hes in bexhill :thumb2

if you want ricks number , pm me :thumb2

yup, if Rick is available, id certainly contact him, from what I can gather, hes not afraid of anything!

if a garage is scared of doing ANY job on a car, avoid avoid avoid. In my mind, a mechanic should be positive and knowledgable, and should know how to do the work. These cars are hardly modern, and they arent difficult, so it pisses me off when I hear a mechanic suck the air in through his teeth, ive walked out of garages at that point many times before, does my head in.
