New clutch & now the electric windows Don't work ?!?!

I had the clutch replaced and now the electric windows don't work! 8O I have checked the two plugs under the centre consol and they are connected :roll: , now when I turn them on ie so as I can operate the windows there appears to be a clunking sound coming from under the drivers side panel just above the accelarator pedal :? I spoke to some one at Nissan but they didn't know :roll: :?: :!: are there any of you guys that have had this sort of problem :?:......

happened with my old girl, they take centre console out and knocked the wire off that goes to switch

Could be a relay under there??

I know when ive had the centre console out the plug to the windows switch and something else under there is quite difficult with using a screwdriver.

Could of slipped and broke a wire??

does sound like a wire off, does the clunking sound like a relay? if so it rules out the relay or fuse theory.

As has allready been said you could start at the switch to test for voltage and then perhaps in the door and work it back from there.

A relay would make a click sound not a clonk.
Is the panel you talk about near the electric fuses, if so check in there for a relay.
Also check to see if your connections are around the right way on the switches as they might have replaced them back the wrong way around.

surely if wiring was wrong way round switchs actions would be reversed eg up would send down? dont think theyll fit wrong way round either?

with respect mate a click not a clunk? surely this is a tomatoes v tomAtoes, as trhe niose is relative to who is listening and describing an muffled by a panel? I was thinking if its not a relay making the noise then what is it?

I would still thnk the power suply from this relay to the window has been compromised, if you can find the relays you can usuly feel if it is clicking whe you press the window swithc.

What I'm wondering if the sound as described is something inside the door not engaging and is slipping and then is anything behind that panel at all,?

Could the sound be traveling from the door as an example to that area.?

Clicking = clunking and tomato = love fruit :wink:

I guess we will find out shortly when someone takes the panel off :lol:

It's odd that all that's happened is that you've had the clutch replaced and you now seem to have an unrelated fault. If we assume for a second that the fault was actually caused by the work done in replacing the clutch then it might help. There has to be a link, if this isn't an unrelated coincidence.

It's interesting that there is a klunk in the door - something is happening, just not well enough. Could it be that the earth return path from the window motor is somehow compromised? I guess there'd be a separate ground wire running back rather than relying on a path via the door hinges. I'm just flying a kite here - but is it possible that there is/was/should be a grounding wire/strap connected to the clutch housing/gearbox/engine that was removed in the process of doing the clutch job but wasn't replaced afterwards - or not properly? You'd be looking for a dangling or loose earthing wire/strap.

Just a thought.

WOW guys 8O , sorry it's been so long since I put this post on here, but I have been at work a lot (too much :smile: ) I have been reading your thoughts on this matter tho and so I went back to the mechanic and asked for a more detailed discription of what he thought and he tells me that there was a sort of crackling sound coming from the swith :? in the centre consol so that is why he left them disconnected. By crackling sound he means that a switch is shorting out :roll: . I have reconnected them now that is when I can hear the tomatoe/ clink /clonk sound what ever but when I turn then windows off then it stops :|. Bearing in mind I thought it was a relay I have looked for one the only one I can find is under the bonnet that is also for the powersunroof and windows the roof is working drivers window works but cant seem to find any other relay or fuse to check. so I shall have to have a poke around using the multimeter and my expertise (only kidding, I ain't gotta clue). Mechanic recons it could be a duff switch :?: :|.

Hang on a mo, let's understand what you are saying here. If I understand you correctly .........

1) Power windows used to work fine
2) Vehicle went in for clutch to be replaced & when it came back the power windows didn't work?

Is that right?

Dunno about you, but I don't believe in a coincidence on that scale. It has to be something that the mechanic who changed the clutch did or didn't do properly, doesn't it?

I've got a workshop manual for my Patrol and the order in which troubleshooting is carried out for Power windows that don't work is:

1) Check fuses
2) Check ground connections
3) Check window power relay
4) Check wire between window power relay and power window main switch for open/short circuit

Now, which of those might the mechanic who did your clutch job have disturbed? Got it in one - or rather 2) above. I'd be looking for missing or loose ground connections in the engine bay.

Well guys thought I had better get back to you all as it has been a while but I found someone scrapping a T2 on ebay so I took the risk and bought the window switchs and yyyyyyiippppeeee they work -mex- -dance- -dance- -welldone- . so thats that problem sorted god only knows whats wrong with the others :?:

Anybody want a cheap set of window switchs that don't work :?:
