Any chance of some pics, I have oil dripping from the slave cyclinder & the rubber boot looks like engine oil so I think I may have to change rear oil seal soon unless there is another diagnosis from those of you will more experience of these engines:bow
Only had the Mav for 3 months

will get some pics up during the refit and as oil leak yep sounds like the crank oil seal or poss the box's output shaft seal would bet on the crank one though
sure some more experienced terrano owners will be along soon to let you know how hard its to change??

get a sample of the oil on the rubber boot and put it in water if it mixes then it is clutch/brake fluid and all you need do is change the slave cylinder, if it has no effect in water then yes it is engine/gear box oil, but start looking at rocker box gasket first and give the engine a good degrease/clean so that you can see where the oil is coming from, crank rear seal is pretty rare, Rick

Hi guys

Thanks for the tips, I will check the oil with water later today

I pressure washed it all down underneath then after the next use I located the oil, on the slave boot & also oozing from the boot on the clutch arm. So it looks like its leaking rearwards of the flywheel, unless it is centrifuging off the front of the flywheel & running back. The clutch does not appear to slip

I assume there is a drain hole at the front bottom of the bell housing, if so nothings coming from there.

The oil on the drive repels water so I guess it is lube oil.

Thanks for posting the pictures & text to another thread, the link is in my favorites.

Is there a spy hole to inspect the flywheel engine side, I have a snake camera, I was thinking if there is, wipe the flywheel is it is wet with oil then check after a run. Perhaps look in the bell housing with the snake too.

I have a 4 wheel bogey only about 10cm high would that be useful for laying the gearbox on? it is around 50cmx60cm.

I can easily make a crutch for front & back to support the box & have access to a crane like the one in the pictures

Thanks for the rocker cover tip, the bolts took an easy 1/2 turn, & the oil is running down both sides of the front of the bell housing.:clap

Should I change the rocker gasket?:bow:bow

Thanks dave:doh
