Hi All,

Im come seeking help and advice - as usual.

Put the Teranno to local garage to get front discs and pads on
55plate 3.0 SWB
Got a call from garage 45mins later to say cant do it come and pick up the car.

The reason (and Im going by what Im being told).

The wheel came off, hub came off, circlip off but they couldn't get a hub nut off or more so they didn't want to try, he said someone had been at the nut before with chisel to get it off and he was worried about breaking that nut - therefore holding up ramp time at his garage.

He is okay about trying to get that nut off either by special toll or chisel but he wants me to get a new nut incase it breaks and he has a new one to go on - that's seems fair enough to me.

Questions are:

1. Anyone know the right name for this nut going be descriptions above?
2. Nissan only, ebay, Milners?? (I had a quick look on Milners but could see wheel bearings, cv joints but nothing about a hub nut).

Any quidance / help much appreciated.

Aaron

Are we talking front wheels?

He's either referring to the lock washer or the wheel bearing lock nut I bet

I'll soon be able to post you one of those up if you need one bud?

I'm not sure about the 3.0 litre, but there is no conventional hub nut as such on my Maverick, Terrano II 1996 version ie those with auto hubs.
Fixed hubs like yours will probably be different...
I have not looked at those, so hope someone will be along shortly...

When I removed the circlip, I removed the brake rings and bits, you will then see a circular ring with two pozidrive screws in it.
Remove these screws, and the outer ring pulls off, leaving a ring with holes around the circumference.
This rotates anti clock wise as normal to undo, but you might need to put something in opposing holes like a nail, and undo using these.

This really is a nice piece of engineering, and a chisel should never be used near it.

Like I say, later Terranos could be different, as they have fixed hubs, and no brake rings...

Going by description, yep the lock washer and lock nut.

Il play it safe and see if I can get both for both sides, so

2no. lock washers
2no. lock nuts

The guy did say if the original nut had been in good nick he would have just popped along to Nissan garage to borrow the proper tool - so ties in with diagram and description.

Banshee, would you have two of each you could send me and let me know hoy much.

Got this send to me from local Nissan dealer after giving him my chassis number.
Im thinking the 40262, 40264M or maybe even the 38512 (is that like a castle nut?).

Leave it with me mate and I'll see what I can do

Without the Brake rings found in one fitted with Auto hubs, then there needs to be some sort of spacer to fill the gap so that the snap ring fits over the shaft.
Or is it just the outer cover that covers the hub with the 6 bolts in...
ie the drive flange...

We need someone who has stripped one of the later ones..:nenau

40262 is...Nut-lock, front wheel bearing: 43262 0F000
40264M is...Washer-lock: 43234 8F300

James has got a later one in the barn, I'll see if it has fixed hubs or not and report back as I've never stripped a later one

Okay, so popped back round to garage at lunchtime, confusion still reigns.

Its not the nut lock or washer lock, mechanic said they came off fine - it was after them.

Its was after them, he described it more as a 19mm round nut on the end of the axle that had castle type heads?? If that helps anyone who has been through the process.

Possibly, do you have a reference / link / pic?

Sorry for hassle, Ive done brake discs myself on cars but im a but reluctant to get involved with all this hub removal stuff myself.

Thank you.

Would it be a similar setup to the Navaras, I was watching this video on You Tube, and at 3.30 when the lock nut and washer are removed, theres an end which is rounded with 4 castle end pieces (if that makes sense) but the guy on the clip doesn't remove them to get the brake disc off.

If Terrano is same setup im questioning the guy a the garage or the Terrano could have a different setup.

That clip is identical to a Terrano with manual front hubs, very similar procedure to mine with Auto hubs... Same method to tighten bearing, same ring with two posidrive screws

So where is this big nut that you have?
Like I say, the fixed hub, like on yours MUST be different to earlier ones.

Mmmmm, Im beginning to question the garage I went to now.

That video shows the lock nut and washer coming off and that's its, off pops the brake disc.
