Hi Guys

Finally made a choice and bought a 1998 Nissan Terrano II 2.4 SWB as the "mucky truck".

See pictures :)

Car is pretty much stock standard and I have a wee bit of a budget to get some modifications done so I can have some fun this summer.

I was thinking about a lift, probably leaving it at suspension (as opposed to suspension and body) and some new tyres, maybe some spots??

I'd really like some advice on what I can do for say under £1k without doing the work myself (just simply don't have the time)

If you have some recommendations for 4x4 garages local to Surrey (I live near Caterham) who can do the work well please let me know (if they can supply the parts all the better)

i have a feeling the tyres and the "lift" would blow my immediate budget, but please let me know your thoughts

Cheers
Adam (not sure if I made the right choice of forum.. mods feel free to move)
PS ... the pics

:eek::eek::eek:

Id say about a third of the things you could do if you did the work yourself!!!! :lol :lol

If your wanting the T2 purely as a 'mud plugger'....

1) Wind up front torsion bars = £00.00
2) LWB springs in the rear - think you can get them of members for about £80.00 delivered
3) New set of bigger AT's all round including spare... say £500.00
4) Modify front bumper for more clearance and tyres = £00.00
5) Remove mud flaps for tyres = £00.00
6) Replace oils, filters.... damn good service = £80.00

£660.00.... BARGAIN!!!!! :clap

To be honest with these trucks unless your wanting to go 'hardcore' off road where you'll need a winch, shackles etc etc not much more you need to do :nenau

Thanks for the reply BigBlack - truck is going to be used for laning mainly, but will also throw a few challenges at it i am sure. From what I have read online and looked up, suspension kits cost a bomb and tyres as you rightly point out ar circa 500 quid, so a grand is easily soaked up.

keep the advice coming :)

I would give it a go as it is first and get a bit of a feel for things before you splash out. They go pretty well standard and then you can see other peoples mods and think about things before deciding. For my money on a t2 i just usualy go for some decent tyres and leave it at that.

i hear you :)

I guess I am just concerned that its too low ... I mean, my other 4x4 is a Patrol which has superb clearance as stock, and then I lifted it 2" to make sure :)

I'll ring AJS tyres in the morning and see what they have in stock

hi only me.. thought id seen that name before some place..

ill go back to sleep now then

i've just been googling

it appears a standar patrol has a whopping 2mm more ground clearance than a standard Terrano. Thats not quite the thickness of a beer mat is it?

so with new tyres on a t2 and part worns on the patrol the t2 would have more clearance?

I will now wait for all those who know the numbers to set me straight :thumbs

Dont bother with the suspension kit.... LWB rear springs and torrsion bars wound up should give you a couple of extra inches for next to nought, peeps have done body lifts but with problems. Have a read through the Terrano modifications section on here, or have a look at Extreme4x4's, makeitfit, ADZ photos for ideas

But as Plank says, maybe give it a go first as standard... you may be suprised! :thumbs

Ive done lanes like these with a standard SWB... with ROAD biased tyres on!

The photos dont really do them justice though! :naughty

Plank - please link your google findings

will have a proper look under the T2 in the morning

thanks matey, busy trolling thorugh the forums older posts now. looks like I'll get some springs and tyres sorted ASAP

Incidently, I did most my 4x4#ing in Australia on stadard nissan "AT"'s only really changed to decent ones over here

why is it thick with sarcasm? i'm lost merely passing on facts as i found them, though i cant veryfy them as i dont have a patrol here my t2 handbook says 210 mm clearance.

this site gives a lot of specs for a simmilar age patrol

http://www.aaa.asn.au/roadtests/reports/338.pdf

ground clearance they state is 212 mm

any one got an owners manual?

Just been through my Australian patrol manual front to back - clearance is not even mentioned

they state its "measured" and they dont say where from :(

well i've kept on delving and http://www.difflock.com/buyersguide/pastmasters/nissan_patrol2/technical.shtml

seems to agree with the very small difference in standard clearance.

I was just highlighting how capable a t2 is in standard form.

I wouls stil try it as it is a few times first so at least you will have something to compare to way up the merits of any changes.

for example, winding up torsion bars plays havoc with wheel alignment settings and you may find your new tryes wearing very unevenly! Just my opinon but i tend to err on the cautious side whn it comes to handing over my cash.
