Never Fail Another MOT....

Here is the definitive MOT 'Guide' used by Testers and Examiners here in the UK.
--This is the MOT 'Bible' to which Testers refer.

It lists every testable item with reasons for rejection.

So,--You can 'Pre-MOT' test Yourself, rectify any faults found, and presennt your vehicle with confidence that you'll get that Pass...

Excellent post Zippy, I just looked at Appendix C Structural Integrity and Corrosion.
It mentions test with the corrosion assessment tool.

What's this then..... :nenau a small hammer I guess. :doh

Gone were the days when the tester used to hit mini sub frames with a 2lb lump hammer until sheets of rust came off.

Or push screwdrivers through the sills. :doh

Don't you beleave it I work in a garage, AND the biggest part of an MOT is how a tester interprets that book, no two testers do it the same. For instance last month I had my T2 on the ramp at dinner one of our testers being nosey "what ya doing Tone, F me who passed them brake pipes". "R***" I says. "F me I would have failed that" he says. So you see some things are black and white but a lot is very very gray, and yes I have seen normal hammers used. Don't forget there should be a designated viewing area and by law you have the right to watch the test. If your car fails and you don't agree with it you can appeal, if you win your appeal however the car has still failed the test, you only have the pleasure of knowing you were right

Also I've never seen anyone view an mot test other than an incognito mot test inspector, so if you want it done right ask to view and make um sweat.

Well of course your right there mate, but I can only speak for myself here and for me as I do my own servicing and don't have that mechanical savvy to look for hidden problems (same as a lot of people on here judging from some of the questions) its nice to no once a year that the care is as safe as it can be, as specially as it carries the wife and kids. If its the difference between a boarder line tyre or ball joint lets say, "oh it will be ok for a month or so" sorry mate it will get sorted a.s.a.p. But hay thats just me and my priorities, were all different.

MOT

take it to the Local Council for mot, they dont do repairs, the fitters are on a wage so pass or fail they are not after the repair work or they carnt be bothered with the retest, much nicer to be drinking cups of tea, than doing retests:thumbs Laurie.
