Hello guys,

I really need help on this one. Yesterday i left the car with the lights on:doh I took the battery out and recharged it. The starter spins nicely but the car wont start! Is it something with the anti-theft system???

I also had a guy last night to try and start the car with jump cables and it of course did not work. There have been no issues earlier with the car at all.

Thanks for your time. I badly need the car tomorrow:thumb2

Cheers

Lars

What is the state of the IMU/NATS light on the dash?

Seems to work. Blinking in OFF and not when ON. I am sure it's something with NATS:)

what does the engine check light do with ignition on, Rick

They all appear normal Rick. Nothing unusual really. I better check the workshop manual i think. I am sure it's NATS related as i took out the battery for recharging.

Regards, Lars

I am pretty sure that when I used the wrong key and locked myself out of the immobiliser that the check light was flashing and the only way round it was re program the key to the IMU cost £60 with a car lock smith hooked up a computer and sorted, just disconnecting the battery will not cause an immobiliser problem so double check connections and as mentioned on another thread the fuse marked meter under the dash, Rick

when i flatternd my battery samething happend to me wouldnt jump start off the recovery truck 3 hours later jumped first time from my van charged my battery over night its been fine since.

seems the fuel pump solanoid stays shut off after a drained or low battery try recharging over night

Thanks a lot for your time lads:thumb2 I am looking into the manual at the moment and will go down and look at the fuse box etc. Will let you know the results later if interested.

Cheers

course we are interested, Rick

That was a unneeded question i guess Rick :)

Well there was nothing wrong in the fuse box and the car started:thumb2

I looked in the manual and found this in section GI-4:

"When failing to start the engine first-time using the key of
NATS, starts as follows:
(1) Turn ignition key to “OFF”.
(2) Wait approx. 5 seconds.
(3) Turn ignition key to “START” again while keeping the key
apart from any others on key-chain".

It worked waiting about 5-10 seconds. When i tried to jump start i am sure i waited more than 10 sec to let some current flow to the battery. Quite odd it did not start. When i tried tonight after recharging, i only tried 2 times for a good few seconds and nothing happened. When i came down the second time i turned the key, no start and then waited as described above and it started. Maybe a thing to remember. I am just wondering why it's not possible(it seems) to jump start a T2 TDI???

Thanks for your time and input guys:thumb2

Lars

Of course you can jump start a TDi, there is something else going on here, I suspect the ignition switch, known for bad contacts at this age, turning it slow often helps, but I would replace the electrical part, two difficult screws and a plug, about £30 from dealers in UK, Rick

Thanks a lot Rick:thumb2 I would also say it should be possible and it's quite a mystery to me why i couldn't. The starter was spinning OK. I never had a start problem before but will look into the switch issue. Thanks mate.

Lars

The internet is awash with how to resolve this issue. It looks like you found the solution(Fingers Crossed)

I have had the same problem, sometimes it took 1/2hr of charging off A running jump vehicle with revs raised to 2000rpm (various sizes inc 24v transit tipper) check battery terminals & earths

Very interesting. Sounds like there are some issues at least to jump starting our T2 TDI's! Anyway doing like described in the manual helped me out.

Regards, Lars
