NEC sv8100 phone system

Need help once again girls and boys, have to get the above mentioned phone system for my client, just downloaded the features specifications manual, ffs 1770 pages, I am going to read that am I not, so any phone knowledgeable people on here to offer advice? Rick

Were talking IP phones are we Rick?

If so you're going to need to run CAT5 etc, you'll also need a server of some sort to look after the phone system AFAIK

It is an SIP/VOIP system, and if complete will include the provisioning server etc.
But as Banshee has suggested, it is an IP network based system, so no conventional phone wiring, it is all network based infrastructure.

From my dealing of the NEC pabx, to be fair, about 7 years ago, you are better getting someone else to install and maintain it... If you can find anyone. I think every site I installed a Voice recording system in, that had an NEC ended up having it swapped out for something else within a year.

Bloody awful switch, always crashing, and it takes a good 10 mins to get it back up and running again. It's Windows based, and self contained, but often, you crash one card plugging in or unplugging a phone, and have to re-boot the whole thing, as there is no live swapping.

thanks all, I have an electrician on site who will run cat 6 cables all around but I just want to understand what is going on in order to keep up with things, hubs, routers are all above me at the mo, Rick

Like I say, it was 7 odd years ago, and it was sold mainly by BT. There were so many issues, I believe BT dropped it in the end and went back to Mitel. I know most of the ones I met became either Mitel, Interconnect, or Samsung.

It also had some major issues with very basic functionality, like not supporting distribution groups, and some basic parts of wall board reporting, but I would have thought those have been sorted by now. Having said that, anything that runs on Windows as the base level operating system and needs to run 24/7/365 is just asking for troubles, regardless of how well the software put on top is.

Can anyone offer advice on wiring this stuff up, seems an interface is needed, as have only 2 sockets for 8 handsets and 2 for 8 lines, it has an ethernet socket as well as two sockets for 2 single line phones, help needed, been on line for this stuff but it is over my head jargon wise, Rick

Most likely what you need is an Ethernet switch/hub with a number of ports to suit the phone headcount....8,16,24.
One port will connect to the NEC SIP server and the remainder to the phones.
