so, yesterday I proudly changed my very first drop-link! It was the nearside one, and was obliterated. It was only changed last MOT as well, so I think a combination of crap part and the fact that the damge to the wishbone has caused a slightly large hole where the link drops through.

Am I right in thinking (because this is what I did) fitting a thick washer (as per the download section advice) will help with this? Or is there a more permanent solution (but i dont want to replace the whole wishbone)?

cheers chaps!

i enjoyed doing this job, little bit fiddly but saved me a heap of money at the garage.

Think Makeitfit is the best guy to answer this one, Rick

thicker/bigger washer does help also get some poly bushes for both sides, i've now welded a washer in place and the washer that comes with the droplink just sits on top of it, bit of double protection if you like, as rick said makeitfit is the man to ask he has done a modded droplink using rose joints, i'm yet to do this mod but after recently incorporating makeitfits steering mod i can bet it a great bit of kit :D

All answered already Clivvy :D
You can also get a huge washer inside the wishbone by grinding a small flat on one side then twisting into location. That'll stop the arm chewing on your rubber :lol
Rose joint drop link is nearly as cheap as a toy one by the way :sly

cheers chaps. well, im away in Welshland this weekend, but will have another look after the drive to see how things are. I should have bought polybushes, I just rushed into it again and bought what i needed. Now you mention welding on the washer, i wonder if this has been done before because I had peel off some old washer.

Makeit, whats this rose thingymibob you on about? you trying to sell me some sort of fancy drop link? if so, tell me more....!

im more than up for doing the drop link again as i quite renjkoyed the work, but if you are sugegsting you have some better/stronger links then im all for it as this is the third time i have had the same link done.

did the rubbers go or the actual ball joint part?

here's the pic of mine I did , but I'm exploding them due to 35" wheels and LPG power :sly You'll still need to fix the hole ideally. Then use 4 'king huge washers per side and as I did some polly bushes for extra grrr :D

I can't remember the exact size but it's probably 5/8" female rose joint.Like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-8-x-5-8...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item588d3335d2
You just bolt up from under neath the arm, put some thread lock on too.
Then a new bolt through the arb and rose joint, simples :thumbs
