Navara/pathfinder mpg thoughts

Hi all, asking this on behalf of my mate who's bought a d40 Navara. I'm convinced it's not running right cos it doesn't pull anything like my t2 and throng seems low to me. He's getting low 20's round town and struggling to break 25 to the gallon on long motorway journeys. The cars not loaded up or towing, he's just using as a family vehicle so I expected him to get more from the more modern 2.5dci engine.
What do we reckon?
Any other owners out there can quote me sone mpg figures?

Forgot to mention he's now even considering swapping to a passat estate because the total costs are more than they expected so we have a duty to try to keep him in his 4x4 if we can help his costs by sorting out the mpg at least!

Has it been serviced lately? simple things first like fuel/air filter! Do a diagnostics test on it :thumbs

Know nothing about these, but just look up some owner reviews and he should be getting 25 mpg average, Rick

my mate gets 26 mpg

He should be getting over 30mpg easily on a run but as you've mentioned it doesn't pull aswell as your T2 I wonder if his maf has packed in or on it's way out. Few of my mates have had navara's & they weren't slow motors:augie
