navara big ends

Hi all
will be sending the navara to the vets on monday to get it's big ends done, a mod to the oil pump connection and possibly a new clutch.
will let you know the outcome. with 91,000 on the the clock felt it was time to bite the bullet.

Is it common for the big ends to go so soon on navara's?

Yes paul.

Its a big problem on the YD25DDTi engine. Some have gone as early as 30,000miles and plenty dont make it to 90,000.

What parts are you using Tony? I hope they are not nissan parts!

D22 pre august 2006
blown engines due to main bearing faliure.
there is an extended warranty if full service history.
engines disintergrating

Hi all
I'm taking it to Bill car engineering here in shrewsbury,they have moded over a dozen. There is a new part number for the big end shells which appear to be made of a better grade of whatever their made of. They also put in a machined tube with an o ring into the oil pump to seal it.
I never use main dealers for servicing never found one which knew their rear from their elbow.

i have just been speaking to a guy with a navara, he's had the problem with the bigends, he said the dealers are not recalling them back, but are waiting for the owner to contact them with a problem, then they will deal with it, but surely if there is a known mechanical problem they should recall ALL navara's and put them right, his one has been in dealers for 8 weeks but they did give him a l200 to use, and i think he's going to keep it now.

I shall do mine at some point. I have allready been shot down on the Nav forum for putting it off!!

And Tezzer, the L200 is nothing compared to the Nav, Im sure your friend will find it a disapointment.

Is this a DIY job or a garage job.

What sort of price are we looking at?

My Nav has 36k on it - but worrying all the same.

I did e-mail nissan and got a typical reply which stated 97% of engines were fine.

Most likly a garage job, but if you have good mechanical knowledge it can be DIY. I will be helping my friend an exmechanic do mine.

People on the Nav forum are being charged around £500 for the job. There are a few detailed threads on www.nissan-navara.net

Tony are you replacing the Con rod bolts aswell?

hi NNMan, yes i agree, but i think the way he's looking at it, is the dealer has around 7 franchies, and they are trying to get him to pay towards the cost, but he is not having any of it, so when he demanded another vehicle, they offered him a new l200, i think thats the only reason he took it, but he does prefer the navara though.

hi all
The navs back and I'm skint.
new big ends,new clutch, new oil pump.new timing chain and guides,new other chain and guides ,two new belts (fan and air con) Big end bolts,sump/pump mod,fly wheel skimmed and assorted gaskets, oiljets,oil filters, seals etc. all for £1593 which don't sound alot if you say it quickley.
I must now go and lie down 8O
