But Elton sorted it out for me with the super strong steering job.
Thanks mate.
Blimey its going take some getting used to driving it now.
Super stiff with no play.
I think it will loosen up a bit in a week or 2.
Its a very weird drive.

A pleasure as always mate:thumb2
Took me a bit to get used to it,kept over steering for the first few times out.
Give it a week to bed in and just check the nuts and bolts.
Your idea of a split pin is the way to go I think to keep that nut in check.

Yes mat I will be looking into that.
What size was the one you fitted?
Can't go too much longer I know but another 10mm should be OK for clearance.
What size and pitch?
60mm 1.75 pitch 14mm?

Can't wait give it a thorough testing on some lanes.

The ones I got were m14x70mm 1.75 pitch but I cut some off them as they were a bit long.
The ones we fitted today are 60mm long.
Take the washer off and that will give you about 5mm of thread under the lock nut which will be enough for a small hole and split pin.

Sounds good, the split pin idea I think is a super safe idea and infact prob an essential. :thumb2

So will this become a service you offer Elty? :naughty

I doubt it mate.
Its a ball ache to source parts.then they all need modding and then of coarse time to fit.
Its been an ongoing project for a few months.
If I was providing this service I would want 300 quid.

Yeah have you got any pics of drag link?

Sorry no.
As I understand it.the hole that's tapered has to be drilled out and an insert pressed(by machine) into the hole to make it suitable for a bolt.
Again Elton is the man and sorted this out for me.

Pretty much what I concluded when I started this idea. I just don't have the time when other people need it doing
There's no getting over how good the steering is afterwards though :thumbs

Come to think of it, where did the idea that uprated steering is needed?

Did makeitfit's steering crap itself offroading?

And who says the limit is xx"?

When parts wear out the steering gets so vague it's dangerous

Ive got a speed wobble at about 78mph onwards, but it's much better since rick adjusted wheel bearing, didn't adjust the other side as we were playing with cv. Will be interesting to see if it's gone once other side is done.

So although likely counter productive, when it wears you could just replace bushes ect? :nenau

I did it first I believe :D and yes big tyres WILL wipe out Nissan's chocolate idler and associated gubbins.

Sweety, once the new steering arms settle in it's no stiffer/heavier than normal, just uber precise :D

For the first couple of weeks driving it felt a bit stiffer and I kept over steering as I was used to the bit of play that the 6 ball joint standard relay gives you.
As long as you check the nuts are tight say once a month then it's all good.
Only had to tweak the nuts up once in about 8 weeks of having it fitted.
I could feel the difference as I had a little bit of play develop.
Hats off to Pete for putting in the thought and time to develop this mod for us mere lemmings to follow :🙇 :bow
