Brilliant MPG return !
Did a 180 mile round trip today taking my daughter to university and returned 57 mpg, winner winner :thumbs:thumbs:thumbs
That's very good / brilliant mpg by any standards.
I don't think I have ever owned any vehicle that would break the 40 mpg barrier - most of my life real world vehicle fuel consumption it's been in the 25-34 mpg zone.
My vehicle ownership costs have been influenced by trying to get something with low depreciation, low capital cost so I can pay cash, lots of space, crash survivable, decent performance, reliability and manageable maintenance costs .
The annual depreciation cost of many vehicles can easily exceed the total fuel purchase in a year. My best mate bought a lovely Mercedes 350 Coupe brand new in 2010 it cost him around £55,000.
He returns a respectable 34 mpg average with low 40's mpg on a run service costs are not cheap and it eats rear tyres as he has a heavy right foot. The vehicle is now worth around £8,000 so his depreciation has been £5200 a year (That's more than our WJ cost to buy !).
My average depreciation costs are usually closer to the £5-600 mark, my total fuel costs in a year are typically around £2000 on our main vehicle the WJ our second vehicle tends to cover around 3,500 miles a year. (The old SL I do not count as she covers less than 600 miles in a year).
What I need is a big 4x4 that costs no more than £5-6k to buy, returns in real world motoring 45 mpg and is not a money pit.....and has to be an automatic. Suggestions please on a Postage Stamp!!
