I like the idea of them. Only problem I can think of is regulations governing maximum height of any particular lights.

rear lights

i fitted a pair of trailer lights on the rear door of my old sj.a bit crude and basic but they never got broke off road after that.i also changed the lights on my sportrack from the ones that fit in the bumper to the ones on the corners of the rear panel.just had to fit a reverse and fog light on the back door.

Hi Baxter
Mine has different rear light assemblies to yours but
Have done the Aussie mod to my upper rear light they all now work. the wires are at the back of the car in the quarter panels
you just have to take 4 wires under the entry guard just inside the rear door
one side to the other. I think the indicator wires are there to....
I Now have 4 stop 4 Tail, 2 Reversing and 2 Fog and 2 Indicator ...
Have Fitted them with LED bulbs to reduce the load on the car.....

Hope that helps

of course id have to fit a 100watt red bulb in the o/s reverse lamp for a fog

are you sure, 21w is usual wattage for a brake, indicator, fog or reverse lamp.

believe manufacturers moved to bumper lights as side opening back doors esp. with spare wheels on were prone to obscuring if door is open.

was a popular mod with disco owners as i recall when lr moved side, brake and indicator to bumper, owners installing retro clusters.

as for t2/r20/mav and mistrals sharkie installed side light bulbs in high level brake clusters, i suspec looking at siz of them they could have been designed to offer more function than just brake as they have always done.

mind there is an large area of reflector included.

thought did a workshop, if not maybe pix in gallery.

failing that pm him.
Ta, will pm him had a look around last night but no luck, took my old lights of the blue mav to have ago doing this and just sold them on ebay.. Paul.

sorry Paul, just searched no joy, maybe older than thought and on old server, or didnt get moved across to this site.

had some nice pix in dark showing 4 tail lights. think there may be a ready made hole for a small tail bulb in upper clusters. sharkie just ran feeds from lower clusters.

another project not got round to, was me moaning about present lighting set up that led to project.

my other pet hate and still not resolved is poor reversing light/fog light set up. bought a pair of matching clusters each with reverse light to improve out put and relocate fog function, may be to an led 'brake' strip above towbar. downsize is messing with factory wiring so may still just fit some rear spot/fog lights 'rally' style with own switch.

Not just me thinks the lights at the back are crap then..Have pmed him to see whats what, thanks for your help here & SORRY Baxter for the hijack of your thread.

I just swung a 100 watt square spot light under the bumper RHS and then wired it in to the factory spotlight.
Tucked up out of the way so as not to get hooked up when off road.

Hi Baxter  You mention you've binned your rear mudflaps, i've just done the same on my T2 & notice how much muck was going up behine the lights so i've made up 2 steel blanking plates that bolt onto the mudflap mounting points, so far it's worked
