Up and out of the way for when off road etc

That’s a very good idea HB, you can always carry a short extension lead for any trailer without a long enough cable.

a very tidy job too, obviously a skilled man with a steady hand!

quite, neat job.

reminds me of one of the utilities, murphy maybe,
have socket high up on their vans perhaps so can fasten
trailer board to top of van rather than towed compressor
all to frequently only graced by triangular reflectors

Not as easy a job as I thought it would be - thats a double skined area and there seem to be various boxes etc, but I got it done eventually. Always planned on using rivnuts but they're essential, it was getting the wiring through that proved difficult. Hardest bit though was actually taking the plunge and drilling a great big hole in perfectly good body work

thats why i did the step 20 mins and a lot easier

the main thing is the tow bar comes off in 2 mins now so thats the best bit

Hi Hummingbird.

Can i take it you drilled the paint work to fit the socket?, If you did, did you grease up for rust before and afterwards?.

Simply, I hate drilling good paint work, as its a normaly good point for rust to get a starting hold.

No I painted it with high zinc primer.

The socket needs the 3 mounting holes drilling, I used stainless caphead for these going into rivnuts and then it needed a 10mm hole for the cable to go through with a grommit.

Hi Extreme, can you post a photo of yours too as mine get bashed to bits on the tow bar. An ex member of this club had the female plugs on his wires and simply tie wrapped em to the top of the towbar when not in use but I prefer a proper fixed socket.

trailer socket

ive got mine mounted on the bumper next to the tow bar as they always ended up getting bashed when off road.still would if i took the tow bar off but then the number plate would get bashed so i just leave it on.
