What happened to the old days of "Experts" who knew about this sort of thing, and could predict it before it happened, or the testing in labs under simulated conditions...

It's like the whole country has become the testing ground for manufacturers... Everything you buy, is no longer tested upfront, it's up to the person buying it, to do the testing and fault finding for them all, suffering the problems of having to keep taking it back for this update/fault fix/recall, and then of course later resolving the "knock on" problems that the first problem caused.

So sad..

I read several years ago that tesco were putting higher percentage of bio in their fuels thats why it makes car run like crap

I work for a company which makes Diesel engines and I source the fuel systems amongst other components and the manufactures of fuel systems (Bosch, denso, Delphi etc) do not warrant any thing above 5% Bio, so when you fill up at the pump you need to check as I think Morrisons is higher than 5%.
But I know loads of people run on veg oil or simular oils without too many problems, so who are we supposed to listen to?

its not the bio thats the problem lots of us are using it without trouble its just fuel filter problems ie not changing them regular enuff. the advice on bio sites is always to change your filter after the first couple of tank falls as it cleans all the crap out from the fuel system.

when running on just diesel from pump its every 12,000 but bio diesel is totally different to veg oil may it be called svo or wvo if bio diesel is produced properly it will run in any diesel engine where svo or even filtered and dewatered wvo can not so lets not try to mix up bio diesel with veg oil:thumbs

Not true bio diesel cant be run in all vehicles vw for instance dont approve bio diesel in any of their vehicles

Well, I saw a document from a major car manufacturer that said that the FAME content (bio content) of diesel will be reduced this year to bring it in line with the rest of Europe, and that is expected to reduce the amount of problems with fuel filters blocking.

Winter diesel has been supplied to fuel stations since 15th November, and will be until mid march.

And I quote
"there are four main issues which can result in the blocking or a reduction in the flow of diesel fuel through a diesel fuel filter.
1. The vehicle’s fuel is chilled to a temperature below the fuel’s operating specification and wax particles develop in the fuel which coat the filter material
and stop the fuel flowing through the filter.

2. The FAME (bio-content) in Biodiesel attracts water like a sponge. As the fuel temperature falls, any water in the fuel separates out and forms ice crystals. These ice crystals are too large to pass through the filter and, therefore, restrict the fuel flow through the filter, starving the engine of fuel.

3.The FAME used in the creation of biodiesel (0-7% of the content of UK diesel fuel) in its make up contains a significant quantity of particles which
are very similar to the wax particles already present in the base diesel fuel. These increase the concentration of “unwanted” particles in the fuel and, therefore, affect the temperature at which these particles will solidify in the fuel and block the filter. A winter diesel fuel with a stated performance level of -15C could be reduced to -5C; the actual reduction will depend on the composition of the FAME used in the creation of the biodiesel.

4. Bacterial growth on the filter caused by the FAME and the water droplets trapped in the diesel fuel. The build-up of bacterial growth on the filter material
clogs the pores and reduces the flow of diesel fuel to the engine."

Not true bio diesel cant be run in all vehicles vw for instance dont approve bio diesel in any of their vehicles

difference is they don't warranty any damage because if the bio diesel isn't made right it will damage the ip pump, if its made right it will run in any engine but the manufacture's of the cars cant keep an eye on it simples :thumbs
