Hi,
yes as the title says, failed the dreaded test today, not to bad (i dont Think, hope not anyway). would be most appreciative of your comments and advice on the following.-

1 nearside front Anti Roll Bar linkage, excessive play in a pin/bush
2 Brake load sensing valve linkage seized
3 ABS warning lamp illuminated
4 2 wheel nuts missing
5 offside/nearside brake hose ferrules excessively corroded.

Am agog at the wheel nuts missing, anyone know where i can obtain any? If there are any downloads or pics or links that can help me with these faults and ultimately rectifying them, please point me in the right direction.
Thank you in anticipation.
cheers Wayne

should be 3 on back door securing spare.

spare not part of test, whip it off or stick it in boot.

otherwise agent, milners? etc. ebay. could always
get set of lock nuts which will free up 4/5 existing.

The anti roll bar links rods will need replacing they are about £9 each & TBH I would do the pair as the easiest way is to remover the whole ARB:thumb2 It is held in place by 2 nuts at each side at the front & a nut in each lower arm, I had to grind my old links off:augie There was a download on the site but if it's not there I think i've got a copy of it I can send you if you need it:thumb2

There should be a download on the dreaded front anti roll bar link and a replacement is easily available.
Again wheel nuts are not a problem, breakers yard or ebay or as a temp measure remove your spare wheel until you get some replacements.
ABS light, usually a sensor and for some reason often it's the nearside front. There are are some threads on these, it seems the wires break and with a bit of crafty work with a soldering iron wires can be repaired or replaced.

I would confirm with the tester what they mean by items 2 and 5

It really doesn't sound too much work to get a new ticket for the year.

thanks chaps forthe speedy response, still trying to get round th new format since the server changeover, daft question probably knowing me- but where/how do i access the download section?
presumably i still search for old links(such as the ABS sensors as before using the search link?
This is the time when being a member of this club really comes into its own.
Cheers again Wayne

are these the Drop links sometimes referred to Sweety, ive had clunks on hard turns. garage said was mot fail but not actually a safety issue as such think they meant
until fixed, mine was mid mot year.

other day got quite a loud scrape/ bang as turned right and up a ramp, likely to be
same again do you think as my test due early jan too?

quick links 2nd one down for downloads btw..

Rbrt, is your horrible noise the steering stops that need a coat of grease? again got to the downloads in "Quick Links" at the top right of the yellow bar.

Don't take the arb off for the test or you will fail again. If it's meant to be there and is "absent" it's an automatic fail. I tried I failed!!!!!!
Take it off after the test though as it's much better off road.

hi wanaron, if you get stuck i can send you some wheel nuts just let me know, the only real problem you've got is the load sensing valve siezed, try and free it off before you do any other work, i thought mine was leaking and went to get one from nissan,( i still have a lump on me head where i fell over ), £450 inc vat so if you free it off i could then leak, lucky for me it was a brake pipe leaking, good luck let me know if you want the nuts, :thumbs

just been reading the steering stop download and mine have def gone any body know the best place to get replacements as milners aint showing them on the web.

If you are changing droplinks on front ,polybush them will give better ride and will last longer.

Think they are dealer part only and cost a lot too. I simply blob grease on them every few months or so, have done this for the last 6 years with no problems.

Thanks Tezzer, for the kind offer of the wheel nuts, will Pm you if i need them. Atthe moment as advised have taken nuts off the spare for now. As youve said the main concern is for the ticket is the Brake load sensing valve, the refusal ticket says the linkage is seized, aint attempted today though, real brass monkey weather. Will let you know my progress.
Have found the downloads section ta chaps.
looks like Milners is the place to get bits from, aint never used them, how long does stuff take to arrive?
Thanks Wayne

Sorry for the confusion rbrt:eek:yes they are the drop links but when I worked for rover they were called link rods & the name has just stuck in my head:rolleyes: The ball joint bit went on mine & every time I went up/down a kerb or over a speed bump they would bang:doh

Hi Makeitfit I did'nt mean take the ARB off for good:rolleyes: The easiest way to replace the drop links is to remove the whole ARB as a few members have found that the old drop links won't come free from the ARB & have to be grinded off:augie

Hi,
well made a start today on the task of gettin through the ticket, and yes can confirm that Sweetys advice is spot on, had to grind both ends to get the drop links off, gave the brake load linkage a good soaking in release oil. To be continued as the say.
Cheers Wayne
