hello me again ,
when i aquired my terrano it came complete with a lovely size hole in the n/s wing above the wheel arch you can actually see the top of the tyre through it ,
anyway i would not mind if anyone could share there wisdom with me on this one , due for mot in a couple months i would guess it would not pass but fromm my limited knowledge if the hole in the body is not near a high stress component like suspension or chassis etc it should pass as long as its not on outside with jagged edges .
please correct me if im wrong the only thing close to this hole is the fuel filter houssijng bracket as seen on the left of the picture ,
also not picture rear sills holed been filled would i get away with filling them again ?
i need information !!!:thumbsmany thanks my posts are never short quick or easy :nenau

i havent got
no welding gear no more so ity would have to be local mechanics ,but would it pass a mot do you think ?as is

i doubt it will pass like that, probably due to how close it is to fuel filter etc, as an example, i had a tiny pin prick hole the opposide side to that and they still failed me on it-i filled it!

I'm not up on my double negatives, but IF I am correct you do have some welding gear:thumb2

Failing that get a bit of tin sheet the right size, a tube of gripfill or CT-1, and some paint,

bond the plate top n bottom and the paint it. My Patrol failed due to corrosion within 300mm of the chassis mounting so a bit of welding and filling sorted it. But elsewhere tin sheet gripfill n paint sorted it:clap

sounds like a plan to me :thumb2

Oh b*****ks!
Not much hope for mine then as it has holes both sides. :(
On a lighter note, I checked my MOT yesterday and it runs out two months later than I thought. :)

makes my rusty hole look like a full stop lol

its not the size of hole. its where the corrosion is. and it does not need to have actually holed . but id say yours was ok . its not near anything like seatbelts or suspension . id be inclined to cut the rust off , or treat it . then auto panel adhesive a cover plate over it paint and inderseal be good as new then . no welding required

well...id say it was pretty close to less than 12 inches from the shock absorber mount and its definately a structural weakness-a huge part of the wheel arch is missing! I'd say any proper MOTer is going to fail it, but on the flip side it should be an easy section to weld after you move the fuel filter...

im only suggesting this because i was told this by the MOTer when he failed my tiny hole in the wing...

It might be physically close to the shock absorber mount, but that is off metal work attached to the Chassis, not the body.

You could offer it as a new Nissan feature.

Easy front tyre tread depth inspection without having to get on your knees ever again.
Full access from under the bonnet. :thumb2 :lol :lol

I would get it fixed, and buy some waxoyl and have a look for other areas of rust that matter especially around the body mounts.

I think there's some proximety to the bulkhead that's kind of important:augie

yeah and that, good point, its just simply too big. as far as I was aware, geenrally, you cant get away with any rusty hole in the engine bay, really, due to all the componants that attach to it.

I suppose though, either way, the hole needs fixing, becase the amont of water thats going to come in will be horrendous!

the whol;e underneath of the vehicle is really quite rusty considering the top is fine apart from the sills with filler in them , i think a few brake pipes as well may fail due to rusty ness there touch and go on the mot and at there discretion as far as i remember with my old mondeo ,
but thanks to everyone for the advice whats the best way to treat the underneath of the vehicle like hammerite paint or something cant afford to get it all professionaly done as ive seen on the internet so it would have to be something cheap but something that would last once its done properly i had a hard time getting all the mud and stuff off it when i first got it the last owner must have never looked at the underneath never mind cleaned it butu had done plenty off roading judging by the amount of sand and mud which came out of every crevice .

OOPH if you've got sand coming out then spray the underside with as much pressure hosing as you can manage. Sounds like it's been a boat launcher. Sea water kills the underside big time, I know I beach :augie
I'd be prepared for more holes to pop up though:doh

that hole would be down to mot testers discression, as it's close to the fuel filter, hot sure what else is nearby, pop rivet a plate over it, then some underseal etc. :thumbs

Good plan - and if you slap the under seal on nice and thick no one will notice the rivets!

a tip - never use silicone sealer on metal as it is too acidic and eats metal, particularly lead and aluminum.

if you ever consider it get 'neutral cure' sealer, if it smells like vinegar as it goes off - avoid it!
