Moist in the rear!

While guddling about on Sunday getting the wiring for my tow ball sorted, I decided to reuse the grommet for the rear sunroof drain. Good job I've got skinny arms, but I managed it without making a new hole in the body work! :clap

Up side was I found my wheel brace/jack handle down there :clap, down side was I found some rusting and a definite moist feel down there. Should there be a drain of some sort and any idea's where the damp is coming from? I know, I live in Scotland, so I *know* where it originates from initially!!

I'm going to buy some Bilt and Hamber Dynax S50 to spray down here I think, but I guess I need to resolve the source of the moisture first off.

ok so where does it lead ?
thinking if to front of rear arch, then into sill and out by little drain facing leading
face of rear wheels

or is it to rear of rear arch into the cavity where jack bits can fall?

Seems to come down from behind the rear door (C pillar) and then makes it's way down the jack parts losing area to feed out through a grommet behind the rear wheel. Mine has about 2 inches poking out at that point.

My guess is that the moisture is a mix of possible leaking in that pipe and/or condensation coming from the rear windows and running down there, would have thought that there should be some sort of drain just in case, but maybe that would make matters worse?

There are sometimes simple cabin vents which take the form of hoses or flaps at the rear of the vehicle.
I would think that these are to allow all that positive pressure that blows out of the vents at the front to displace air through the cabin and out of the rear essentially 'drying' the cabin when it's damp!

That could be what it is, I haven't traced the pipe back upwards, I did just assume it was the sunroof one.

Jack handle is earmarked for you Kishada, will drop it off when it makes it's way over here, although it might be worth you sticking your arm down the insides where the jack lives, maybe your handle is 'stored' in the same place as mine, just don't stick your head in there, you'll look even sillier than the bloke in Aberdeen that got his head stuck in a bin!

funny noticed other day there are vents to rear side of rear fixed boot area windows
which could take water into body, so wonder where they lead or how said moisture
could exit vehicle.

I know in heavy rain my boot area gets damp, seems t comes down rear door frame
and under plastic trim. to date though car seems to dry out and I dont suffer
excessive condensation though winter may give different results.

also have very odd drip from sunroof.

noticed this morning after rain and dew, that theres a good sized water stain on road
at front ends of side steps suggesting drains are working there, moisture on side steps
in area of b pillar, though not aware of any drains there unless come down outside of car
and also small patches to front of rear wheels.
