So after getting a good idea of the Troll's capabilities whilst on the Wales weekend (which seems like it was ages ago :( ) I've been having a think of what I want to do to her before the tour in 2015.

Wishlist is as follows (will just try to get down it as far as I can before I do the tour):-

1) 2" Suspension Lift. I've had a major re-think on this one and reckon it will provide the best overall benefit - increased approach and departure angles, higher ground clearance to get my sills out of the way, better articulation, ability to fit 33-34" boots (if I want to). I can carry a step for the older family members to get in! :lol

2) Change the rear lights to euro spec clusters in the boot door pillars. This will remove the need for the indicators and brake lights in the rear bumper (where they're more vulnerable) :thumb2

3) Roofrack. Figure it'll be handy for carrying some of the bits and pieces on the tour.

4) Spares for the tour! Tour operators recommend spare belts, alternator and water pump. I'll check on the Aus Patrol Forums as well to see what the guys take when going into the bush. I'll likely need new boots by this point as well, probably go for Cooper Discoverer STTs.

5) Snorkel. May swap places with the roofrack (probably cheaper at least), I'm not sure :nenau.

6) Rear steel bumper. Won't need a winch in it to be road legal = cheaper than the front and rear overhang is slightly large as shown on the bombhole! (what can I say, baby got back :naughty)

7) Front winch bumper with winch to make it road legal.

8) Rock sliders, sidesteps will have to suffice in the meantime!

Barring a lottery win there is probably zip chance of me getting to the end of the list as I still have to pay for the tour itself and supplies etc, plus I'm sure life will do it's best to get in the way! haha

Anyway, what are your thoughts guys? Would you put any mods higher/lower down the list?

Cheers

Rob

Well reminded bud! Second battery will need to go in same time as the winch :)

CB already taken car of, picked up a wee handheld for the wales trip, with a whip aerial on a mag mount. i might get a longer aerial for it though.

:doh I mean care... hazards of using a phone keypad!

Good stereo:D

What about a bony lift too?

Stock stereo is good enough for me bud ;) Wouldn't mind a DAB radio though, but I'll get the mods out the way first!

Body lift would move the sills up but I'd still have to mod the bumpers to get the real benefit and the chassis will still be at the same level. Would rather just fit rock sliders and steel bumpers as the Troll's my daily driver so don't want to go above a 2" lift for practical reasons and tbh I don't want to fit monster tyres anyway.

I'd make the rear bumper the last on the list, not really essential. 2nd battery is quite high up there I think.

Second function for a snorkel it stays more out of the dust on tracks, so less dust clogs the air-filter.

I read briefly on the site a good gps unit is essential too.

Have you tried being cheeky and offering some ££ for that arb bumper?

If the y61 rear arms are the same as y60, I've read stronger uprated ones are a good idea if you intend any rock climbing.

If you do get a roofrack try to get a compromise between strength and light weight. I've driven a few motors with heavy roofracks and they are hard work.

Maybe some auxiliary lighting too.

Cheers bud, I suppose once I've raised the suspension and moved the rear lights out of there the overhang won't be as much of an issue.

Apart from using it with the winch, what else would I use a second battery for? Just as a back up? :nenau Fitting a split charge system with a second battery is probably one of the easier mods!

Want a snorkel more for the cleaner air aspect than anything else and that's why I'm tempted to prioritise it over the roofrack.

Well reminded about the GPS!

I hadn't though about making an offer for the bumper, but I guess it's worth a try. :thumbs The listing ends on 14 Aug so I'll maybe wait until nearer then to do it.

Cheers bud, will bear that in mind. Extra lighting's not a bad idea! :thumb2

check out the long way down patrols from tv show nicely modded

says Nissan prepped them, but tbh thought was a specialist overland firm, name escapes me

Great as a back-up, when I had my maverick the main battery died. All I had to do was link the 2nd battery up for a few mins and it would start.

Also good for running lights when parked up, maybe a fridge/cooler and other accessories without the worry of the main starting battery from being drained.

I run a t-max split charge kit, Still going strong now. Very big solenoid (180amp I think). Comes with a nice control box with voltage readout and you can manually link the batteries. Auto links them when main battery reaches a certain voltage (i.e not too drained).

For aux lightning might be worth considering some LED lights (especially for lights for when parked up without engine running). You can get them fairly cheap if imported from china. I was going to get a load but too skint.
