Hi all ..

Now the proud owner of a import TDi mistral 1998 LWB .. love it .. :)

For peace of mind should i get it servced ay my usual friendly garage who ive used for years ... ATF - engine oils filters etc .. the ATF looks clear enough on the dipstick however not checked filters etc ..

Only problem ive seen is it veers to the left slightly when i let go of the wheel .. could this be a brake problem .. not really had time to check these things yet as only got it yesterday ..

thanks lads .. :lol

steering pulling to the left ?

Could be a sticking brake / caliper issue if it pulling to the left. If it just wandering to the left could be tracking / steering joint - usual suspects.

no it doesn't wander with hand on wheel ... just deviates to the left when i let go .. so probably sticking caliper as you say ..

what are the tyre pressures for these beasts .. sadly i dont have the handbook for it to be able to check such specs ..

probably just the tracking that needs sorting

Hi Yakkerman,my Misty is a '96 LWB and i love mine too:thumbs.I bought it local for a few hundred quid, low miles and perfect body - i reckon these cars are a bargain (especially the imports with all the goodies like ours)
Are you happy performance wise?.I have done a few small tweaks/checks to mine (K@N),fuel micro filter etc and it pulls great compared to when i first bought it.I tow a 26ft caravan and have been pleasantly surprised with fuel economy.Might be worth you checking the rear seat and seatbelt mounting points and signs of damp under the rear carpet.Crawl under and have a good poke at the rear floor area (i had to weld a couple of patches in),but overall it's the most useful practical and comfortable vehicle i've had in years!.Mine used to pull/wander around until a replaced the knackered front anti roll bar bushes and drop links with new poly bushes (about 15 quid off e-bay).

what sort of k+n ? ..... how did you fit it ? ..... part number ? piccies ??

I was quite lucky because a mate of mine had an induction kit on his RAV4 which he passed on to me when he sold it.It's a large cone type filter which fits onto a sweeping steel bend. This bend fits perfectly into the standard rubber boot that normally goes to the air filter housing. It fit's nice, pointing down, next to the old airbox. As far as i'm aware you cannot get k@n's to fit in the round airbox that our pre-tdi have,so this is the only way to do it.K@n's website states all the dimensions etc so you just have to see what space you have and select one to fit.Alternatively, demon tweeks sell "green" cone filters which are a bit cheaper:thumbs

I can hear the turbo whistle now,and the droning at certain revs on a long trip gets a bit tiring, but for daily running it really livens the car up and along with the pump diapragm mod (procedure on here somewhere),it pulls away a lot better!

but wont it be sucking warm air in from the engine bay rather than fresh air ? ... thereby reducing the effect :nenau

Hi Briggie,

yes you are correct about the detrimental effect of warm air when using some of these "boy racer" type kits.Mine sits right at the front, pointing down, actually not far away from the original cold air intake.I could make it better by removing the original airbox altogether and putting in against the inner wing with a cowl around it,but for now,it certainly does the job for me:thumbs
