Hi all, Can anyone give me any clues to how to replace the alternator on my Mistral. I thought it would be straight forward untill I looked. on the back of the alternator there are several tubes, I have no idea what these are for. the new alternator comes complete with whatever it is that these tubes conect to. I hope all this makes sense to someone. PLLLEEEZZZEE help!!!!!!!!

That’s the vacuum pump on the back, should be still straight forward just the extra pipe to connect up.

Hi Toolbox. Iam presuming that these pipes are something to do with the brakes, will they need any sort of bleeding ?

The pump is to primarily create a vacuum for the brake servo, and will require no bleeding. It wouldn’t hurt to give it a very small squirt of engine oil with an oilcan before fitting, just to lubricate on the initial start up.

Hope this helps Dave

Thats great mate, your a star. I should be able to sleep tonight now without worrying about it.

Hiya ssteve, well I started it up on tuesday evening to go home from work, it started ok but, battery warning light stayed on with car running, also the transmission temp light and the fuel water filter light stayed on too.:doh got home ok but this morning the battery was dead, car wouldn't start, :banghead so I called the AA and he said it was the alternator.:(

Yea, new belts fitted and AA mechanic checked all connections at the battery end and the alternator end and there was no output.

How close are you to Brownhills (near Walsall) ? many years (7)ago I took a Fiesta alternator to "Motolec in Linden Road" and they tested and replaced the diode block and re tested it while I waited. Good price too.
They didn't "charge" a lot ....:lol:lol
PS Fiesta still working.
While I was there I enquired about the Maverick one (just in case) with the vacuum pump, he said just unbolt the pump and bring the alternator in.
I assume they are still in business.
Hope this helps.
Best regards, Rustic

Just a thought, if the panel lamp on the dash has failed, the alternator will not give an output as it relies on a 12 volt supply through a 2 watt bulb to energise the field coils.
You could always try this...

Battery +ve --->---2 amp fuse -->---2watt (or 5watt) 12volt bulb------->-------small terminal on alternator.

Fuse just in case you wire it wrong..

Hiya friends, thanks for all your help, its much appreciated. :grouphug
just finished fitting new alternator, not that hard after all. :thumbs
took a few photos first, just in case :lol but didn't need them, took me about 2 1/2 hours
now Im off for a well earned beer. :beer
