Hello all. I have just become a member and I am looking forward to all that this forum has to offer. I wonder if I am the most Northerly Member, I am from the Shetland Isles? I purchased a Ford Maverick 2.7TD p-reg a year ago. It has always had the same problem, which is as follows. When driving along in any gear the engine feels like it is missing anywhere from 1200rpm up to about 2200rpm it's worst when the engine is under load and accelerating. After 2200rpm the problem seems to vanish!

I have had a read through some of the threads and have done the following, I replaced the Hitachi MAF sensor with a second hand jpb from ebay and the problem remains, when the MAF is unplugged there is a huge dip in power as I would expect. I removed the air filter all together to see if this made any differance, but still the same problem.

I then thought that I would try the Mini Filter that I have read about. I followed the guide un-bolted the Banjo bolt carefully as per instuctions, there was no spring and I think no Filter. The wire I was using for the Hook could find nothing, it was quite easliy able to go to a depth of 3.5" into the pump. Is this normal? Is the filter this far down into the pump?

Any help with my Engine Missing or the Mini Filter would be very welcome.

Kind regards

Allan

As yours is a P reg I would think it's a twin headlight model :?: I had quiet a flat spot & checked for a mini filter & found it was in the banjo bolt itself  If you remove the banjo bolt & can see straight through the holes in it then i'd say you don't have one but if you can't then & can see a white'ish thing (mine was gray/black) then you do. You should be able to clean it but I drilled mine out but you have to be very carefull if you do this

It is the twin round headlight model. I had a look up the Banjo Bolt but there was nothing! Has someone been there before me or does some fuel pumps just have none? Any onther ideas on what might be causing the engine missing?

mini filter

i have a maverick 2.7td and i could not find a mini filter in mine also. my fuel injection pump is fly by wire ie no cable, no cable to throttle pedal just electrics is there anyone out there who can solve this mystery for us please.ps what is the difference between td and tdi thanks andeone.

Only some of the T2 mk2's had the mini filter fitted  I would check the fuel pipe from the tank s condition as when they get old they can leak or suck in air. I would also check that the fuel filter is seated properly as they have been none to let air in. After that then I would think it maybe something elec

mini fuel filter

hi and welcome splooshie1.
how about running a new temp fuel supply ,can it be fitted after filter and gravity fed straight into pump.
try a washing up bottle and plastic hose, if it dont start crack an injector pipe off to aid starting

When did you last replace the fuel filter and also have you tried primming the filter tell it is hard ?

Hi AndeOne, the difference between the earlier oblong headlight TD and the post 1995 twin - headlight TDI is that the twin-headlight model has an intercooler, but the earlier oblong headlight model does not, and also the electrics are upgraded on your model ( more things to go wrong ? ) i.e. you have the MAF sensor, and all the computerised electrics & engine management whereas the earlier models are more basic.
All the best, Matt.

The TDI has the big vent on the bonnet to let air flow through the intercooler. Sorry I cant help with the running other than check the fuel filter, some of the cheaper filters do not seal on the mounting correctly and either leak or suck in air.
