Just about to do the mini filter on my 95 2.7 mav but it looks a little different to the excellent post that shows you how to do it, does the banjo that the filter sits in have a pipe coming out of it if so i know which one it is and it looks easyish to do without removing the power steering pump.
Unless i am looking at the wrong thing, were the mark 1 mav / terrano slightly different to the mark 2.

I did the mini filter on my '94 T2 a few weeks ago, and although it is possible to do it without removing the power steering pump it's much easier if you do. There is no need to disconnect it, just remove the bolts and lift it out of the way. The banjo does, as you say, have a pipe coming out of it, undo the bolt using, I think, a 17mm socket, and lift it away leaving the bolt through the banjo - there will be a sealing washer either side of the banjo, leaving the bolt through the banjo means the upper washer stays in place, you just have to watch that you don't lose the lower one. Move the banjo/bolt to one side and using something like a paperclip bent into a small hook, lift out first the spring then the filter. Wash it in something like paraffin, white spirit or petrol (I used WD40), dry it and reassemble in reverse order - job done. Took me about half an hour.

I've never done mine, in the 16 years I have owned it, but from what you have said it sounds easier than I thought.
I was concerned about damaging the pipe on the banjo nut, I did't know you could lift it out of the way, I've never looked that closely at it.

Thanks for the info. :thumb2

Hi,
Thanks for quick reply, job done just as you described, filter was a little dirty but unfortunately it hasnt sorted the problem.
Looks like it might be a scrap yard time regretablly.

I did mine due to what appeared to be classic symptoms, very poor acceleration and much more black smoke than usual. When I got the filter out you couldn't see through it at all and cleaning it has made a huge difference. I will probably do it every 6 months from now on.

i haven't read the whole thread so bear with me:thumb2

when did you last change your main fuel filter?

Hi,
Only changed main filter about 100 mile ago, i changed it due to the poor starting / cutting out and misfiring symptoms the mav is having.
I have also cleaned the battery terminals but that made no difference, i am giving it one last chance, i have it booked in the local diesel specialist so i will feed back what he finds out.
Suspect injector or pump.
What do yer reckon, maybe i should run a book on it!

Have you tryed the ERG valve.Blocking the pipe off with the ball bearing.Hoping to do mine as mine is playing up and been reading up on it, it may help mine.May be worth a try

No havent even heard of the egr any guidance on it would be great, does the early maverick have one and what do you have to do and where is it.

yes, the early mavericks do have one.
look in the down load section and the answer will present itself to you:clap

could be CKP sensor, that would cause mis firing, poor starting and cutting out. As they get older, they get less effective. When mine was going though, it was worse when warmed up-thats when it would cut out/misfire.

Cleaned my mini filter today as it was running very rough and pumping out clouds of white smoke when running.3 of the 4 outlet holes in the banjo bolt where the filter is set were blocked with what looked like particles of rust.I soaked the bolt in acetone then blew out all the small holes with an air line then refitted the bolt back into the banjo on the pump.Vehicle is now back to running beautifully again :thumbs

Hi Rexters has it got a hand throttle/cold start.
handle is at side of electric mirror control.
I had trouble with mine after i had used hand throttle ,
it ran fine for about 5 miles and then going up a steep hill engine kicked out loads of black smoke + lost power.
I found that cold start lever was still open slightly(over fuelling) I pushed it back and then it was fine

Hi,
The idle speed adjuster is the only thing that keeps it running, i have to have it idling at 2000rpm just to stop the engine cutting out!
