so its still not 100% clear which cars had a mini filter or not. I understand generally the TDis didnt have them, but ive seen so many posts by people saying they do. Anyway, is there a way of telling if you have a mini filter or not? for example if you have an EGR, would that suggest the presence of a filter? Do I need to have a physical look?

I still feel mine is a touch down on power, but have never looked for a mini filter believing that I didnt have one!

Been wondering this myself. Is it possible that early TDi's could have been made using engines left over from the TD model run? :nenau

Remove the inlet bango and have a look. I dont think there is any other way .:nenau My 97 does not have one 2.7 tdi.

hmm..ive heard that about early TDI's, buit i think it also depends on the pump used, mines a Zexel. Ill just have to have a look, i just dont want to break anything in the process!

You wont break anything it really is a straightforward job just take your time :thumb2 but yeah as said you will need to look to find out if you have one.

Could also be fitted to terranos and not mavericks?

I kinda hope I do have one, seems cleaning these solves a whole host of running issues!:thumb2 might have a look at the weekend!:thumb2

Mine's a Zexel too so I will be interested to know what you find :)

um, what crap can the mini filter catch.

after all it is AFTER the main filter...

I had poor power output on my mav, the garage who fixed it under warrenty [I bought from a dealer] said most of it looked like belly button fluf

Hi all,
As few of you know I had power issues with my truck,
And after speaking to several diesel fitters and repair places,
They all said 'it'll be the banjo filter, it'll be blocked, junk it'
So mine been junked.

My point is though, if someone now looks for it, it's gone,
So leaves next owner wondering if theirs does or does not
Have one.

I belive from what read and in workshop manual that
All TDi's had them.

Steve

Nah its the stuff you collect in it, in my case sorta grey fluff, wots yours?

Without the fluff the mav goes a lot better

well, i will have a look this weekend, weather permitting, and ill take pics just in case I do find a filter.

My 2000 swb commercial TDi has one but its not like the one in the early Tds, its actually built into the banjo bolt. i took mine off to clean and just let soak in white spirit for an hour or so then blew it thru with an airline.

Guess it will catch much smaller particles like the mini filter they used to build in some carburetor's. The finer particles will often look like sludge don't know how many microns they go down to but they can be fine enought to trap some large molecules !
