Since I got my T2 7 month ago the mil light never came on with the ingnition. I've had the truck to a garage to have the fuel pump ckecked out (it's ok) & they said about it as they had plugged in to the ecu to do some check. They said it was prob a brocken wire, bulb gone etc. Should I worry about it or just forget about it :? If it's a brocken wire any ideas where I should look ?

I'd be tempted check it , as upsetting as it is when it comes on it's worse when it doesn't let you know of a fault early and the engine dies!! :(

I would put a bulb in its not a hard job to remove the dash and it would also be worth while spraying grease into the speedo cable as they can get noisy on cold days.
Its possible that somebody has removed the bulb because the light is on all the time and they want to sell the car.
Code:

Hi sweety send me your e-mail address I'll send you a picture of the bulb or send a1st class stamp and I'll give you the bulb as I have a whole set spare

Sorry to be thick but whats a MIL light, is it a diesel thing or is there something I don't know about mine?

malfunction light

orange light that looks like an engine, comes on when there is a fault in engine management and petrol engines have it as well

 can't confirm T2 petrol has one as I've got a TDI, but the last 4 or 5 petrol cars i've had did have it

I once had a cavalier that when ignition was off light came on  Traded in rather sharpish

Why MIL then? It's down as engine check light in the Ford Maverick Owners Manual I have, interestingly it says "Petrol Engine only". Copyright 1993 so for the very early models, TD not TDi

Also if you have a key that doe's not work ie only opens the doors then when you try to start the engine then this light flashs and the engine will not start
This happened to me last week :(

and I have a 2.7TDi with intercooler

I'm not sure if I should repost this :? :? Does any one know how to get the clocks out to change the bulbs

easy peasy sweety I'll send you pictures with the bulb mate

The Malfunction Indicator lamp will be found on all electronic controlled engines it indicates a fault in the engine managment system so you will find it on all the petrol models and all the TDI diesel engines.
It is not fitted to the earlier TD diesel engines as they have no engine managment system just a mechanical pump that is controlled by a throttle cable and govenor. I much prefer the older mechanical pumps just get in turn the key and they start they dont cough and splutter there is no electrics to go wrong and when they dont start you know you have a problem which is easily diagnosed and repaired.

Well I got my finger out of a surtain part of my body & took the clocks out, MANY THANKS to TheDuck for the photos you sent me -welldone- The bulb was missing :? :? Any way popped a bulb in & boxed it all back up switch on the ignition & it lit up  started the engine thinking it would come on & NO IT DID'NT -dance- -dance- -dance- -dance-God knows why it was'nt there perhaps it just fell out

I must concur with Terranokid re his preference for the older mechanical pumps etc, no ecus, mil lights etc. Who could have thought that a simple throttle cable could have been replaced by something so outrageously complex. If the throttle cable snapped , you knew it had, and replaced it for not a lot of pennies. For whose benefit is all this electrical gadgetry? Certainly not for the average motorist I would hazzard.
John

me too far to complex what was wrong with bit of cable from a-b worked fine for good few years!
