no fair play theres a link on homepage one mods sell the manuals on cd as little sideline he has a mistral so hed know if covered

Have posted in the other thread you started.

None of the CD's are strictly legal and neither is the site where the manual is hosted (don't know by whom). I used some software called back street browser (google for it) to download the entire manual, its about 43Mb.

I think you're only truely legal option is to go to a Nissan dealer and see if they can sell you an original paper copy - but sit down before they give you the price. There are people on ebay selling printed copies of all sorts of manuals but these are all illegal reprints. TBH I don't think the manufacturers care, the data could be said to be in the public domain now as its been available online for so long so it would be difficult to mount a copyright case.

Yes - I take your point.

Thanks again for all your advice....

this is only fault with the nissans there forgotten when people do acesories and manuals its a shame as very good trucks!

I don't get Haynes at all, There is a ready market for 4x4 manuals as people tend to keep them longer and fix them, them selves. They mod these cars and are as a rule are enthusiasts, yet the produce a manual for a Spitfire.

There was a time when you could repair your car yourself, now most new models you cannot do anything so you would think they would jump at the chance to make a manual.

heres a copy of the email sent to haynes.
be intresting to see their response

Hi

As a member of the Nissan and ford Maverick owners club I am surprised that you wrote to fellow member saying Haynes are not planning to cover Nissan mistral as it is a Jap import

.

Are you aware that it is basically the same vehicle as Nissan terrano and ford maverick?

There are many owners of the club the last count I done was back in may 2007 where we had approximately 420 members and out of that approximately 350 of this type of vehicle. These facts can be seen

http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.co.uk/news/newsjune2007.pdf page 7 if you have trouble with this link please use www.nissan4x4ownersclub.co.uk and use the site map to read newsletter dated June 2007.

We currently have 900+ members in the main run this vehicle. So I cannot agree to the fact there is no call for it.

Your comments regarding the above will be of interest to myself and all the other terrano, maverick and mistral owners in our club let alone the 1000’s that are out there who are not members.

I look forward to your early reply.

Regards

Tony Morgan (robobone)

p.s do you do Haynes manual for pajero or shogun?

Robobone I am also going to email them so it can be logged that someone else would like a paper mannual  They do do a mannual for the shogun & most other 4x4's

we all ought to bombard them with e mails this weekend so when she opens up on monday WOW!!!!!!!

If they didn't do one whilst it was still in production they won't do one now.

IMHO Haynes manuals have gone serious downhill in recent years, they are printed on the cheapest nastiest paper around and they contain so little information. If you compare an older one with a current one, even for the same model of car they have stopped covering so much stuff and there is absolutely no detailed specifications in them, gone are the days when you could compare gear ratios (or similar) from different models to choose a better box to up grade to etc.

dont think vicky from haynes knows her products, seen seperate manuals for shogun and pajero, so so much for dont do greys.

wonder how unique the r20 issue is, almost 15 years in production little change other than cosmetic yet no manual, but plenty about for other mudders.

is it to do with nissan not releasing copyright, think heard before or similar but other nissan cars covered. its a mystery for sure.

here is the reply from haynes

Haynes Publishing Ltd core product is Service and Repair manuals. It is in our interest to produce a manual if viable and I can assure all customers we will produce a manual for a particular model if at all possible. We do not cover Japanese imports due to the limited numbers sold and the cost of original manufacturer manual translation. In some cases there are also issues with the vast number of model variations.

When considering a U.K. specification vehicle for inclusion on our forthcoming list we consider three points:

1. The vehicle has to be DIY compatible and information available from the manufacturer. Although we have good relations with most of the manufacturers occasionally there can be a problem with a individual model.

2. It is out of warranty (i.e. over three years old). The manual market for vehicles still under warranty is very small and vehicles less than three years old are not considered towards our sales target. The only exception to this is for very popular models (e.g. Ford Fiesta) where there is demand at less than three years old and the sales target has already been exceeded by a large amount.

3. Most importantly, it has sold in excess of 50,000 units. Quite simply, below this figure a manual isn't viable. Once the target has been reached the model is put forward for consideration and further research.

In the case of the combined Terrano/Maverick mark 1 models official figures for eligible years are 38,734. As you can see this is still short of our minimum target

can some one please conifm terrano T2 is not a mark 1?

Hello Mr Macarthur,

We do list a manual for your vehicle. The workshop manual covers vehicles upto mid 1996. If your vehicle is later than 1996 then about 95% of the manual is still relevant. Although UK based, the manual covers the mistral ok. It is a very big, comprehensive manual. They are £39.95 + £6.00 delivery.

Thanks, Matthew

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding a Service and Repair Manual for your vehicle. Unfortunately, we do not produce a Manual for this particular model and have no plans to do so within the next twelve to eighteen months. However if you supply me with some more information such as the engine size etc there may be an alternative manual that will help to cover the engine.

However, all customer requests are recorded and used in the decision making process of future Manual publications/updates.

You could try contacting your local dealer to see if he can be of assistance.

Kind Regards
