Anybody know somewhere cheap online i can get a middle box for me motor, got a gaping hole in mine!

Hi cosmic,

Just had same problem the flange holding tail-pipe broke clean off and garages wanted between £200-£300 to replace middle and rear section, this was down in the cotswolds last week, so I went to a local scrap-yard and took a decent middle box off a Mav and fitted myself for £20.00,I used my existing rear section, took me about 1hr total.

have you tried ebay? I was having a look last night and there seemed to be a few exhausts available on their. Whole systems from about £120 iirc

Thanks, just going around getting the cheapest price! as you do!!
will get back with me findings

Cosmic Good thing about being a tight yorkshireman exhaust complete here for £165 fitted. At that price i would get stainless.

Been quoted £110 fully fitted by my m8 just for the middle, but there is some confusion!
He looked up the year of my motor and it seems i have the old exhaust system with two middle boxes and flange fittings either side, when that year should have one box and only one flange fitting at the front!
I was going to tackle this myself but looking at the flange bolts, think it may be better to get someone with the tools to do it!
Will keep looking around though
Never know,i may even phone Kwikfit!!

I saw last night on(maverick, cars, parts vehicle,... loads of exaust parts but no idea of price .But you know how our computer is playing up all the best .It's probably ont up to the fife air

I've just noticed my back box is starting to look very shabby so might have to do mine soon aswell

Ho again,

Mine has two boxes 1997 and no cat, the flange bolts are not to bad to undo after a squirt of WD40 and a 17mm socketand ring spanner, the flange nearest the front has a metal piece joining each bolt together so that they do not turn when trying to undo or replace.

exhuast replacement

When my exhuast goes I am going to have a stainless steel one made up. I have a stainless system - cat back on my Mini Cooper and a local firm did it & fitted it with lifetime warranty for less than the BMW part.

I use PD Gough based in Watnall in Nottinghamshire who advertise in some of the classic mags and they have done two previous systems for me and they are excellent and its a heavy guage stainless not these cheap tinfoil jobs that the likes of Halfords sell.

Added bonus is they sound brilliant and you can have a choice of sporty tail pipe finishes as well .You decide on what size drainpipe you want and they will build it !!
