I have just had a small embarasment with one of our Terranos'. Wife and I took the newer of the two (54 plate) on holiday. During the overnight stop I left our camping fridge plugged into the rear power socket, resulting in a flat battery in the morning. Now when we have done the same with the older T2 (Y plate) turning off the ignition turns off both the cigarette socket and the power asockets, hence why I did not unplug the fridge.
A study of the manual shows that there are two relays, one controls the cigarette lighter from the ignition switch while the other controls the rear of armrest and rear power socket also from the ignition switch.
Now for the question, does anyone know when the change to permenantly live power sockets, (but not cigarette lighter) took place? and is it just a case of replacing a jumper lead with a relay? (if not I have a circuit already designed to do the job).

Thanks in advance.

My 54 plate works like yours.

I've been tempted to stick a relay in circuit at the back end of the car but not really had time to do it. The one in the back of the drivers arm rest is dead and to be honest it is fine by me as it seems rather vulnerable to rear passengers feet.

Not looked into a factory fitted way of switching them and never even thought there would be but it'll save a relay and an ignition feed wire I suppose.

Job's a good 'un

Quick update on this.
Having printed off the relevant pages of the manual, then taken off the footwell trim and under dash on the drivers side of the car The relay that the manual shows was nowhere to be seen. However, at the bottom of the door pillar there is a large bundle of wires which dissapears under the carpet into some ducting. A second cross check with the papers I had led me to the two largest wires in the bundle, namely a red one and a red with blue stripe. A simple test with a multimeter confirmed that the red wire went to the rear socket and the red with blue stripe to the socket in the rear of the centre arm rest and this one was also swithed by the ignition switch.
A suitable relay was then fitted using the red/blue wire for triggering with the red wire being cut and fitted to the relay contact terminals.
Hey presto, now works as the manual shows. End of potential embarasment, but I will be checking the other T2 we have just in case my memory of it is wrong and it needs the same mod.
Will try and remeber to photo the instalation as I do it if needed.

Sounds like a good fix, I do not have this problem as only got socket on the dash, and if I wanted 12v at the rear a cig socket would not be enough so would need to run heavy cables direct to the battery via a fuse and heavy relay, my use would be for an inverter in order to charge battery tools in event I had work at place with no mains, does not happen often and charging at home usually suffices, Rick
