Morning all, today while turning the steering wheel there was the sound of something loose rattling around. Every so oftern it also hit the horn button which was fun. Took the side panal off steering wheel and there was a lump of rusty metel with black sponge on. It's quite a wait and looks like a mini brake pad. Any idea what this could be from inside the steering wheel. Took it out and all works fine. Just would like to know what it is!!!!

some sort of damper. don't know what nissan was thinking when they put it in, useless.

So you don't think I need to worry or get it fixed?????

This has been discussed several times, as far as I am aware, it is only a "feature" of the Tdi models.

I don't know what it does! but others have removed it, as far as I remember.

If it is loose and you have an air bag, then you don't want that flying around:eek:

Nissan have some great "ideas" this probably is up there with the clutch damper pipe that is not required...

Mind you, Citroen have a nice "bodge" too, on their 1.6 hdi engines, on the front left, looking from the front, there is a weight a bit less than a kg, with a rubber centre, mounted on a 4" stalk on the engine mount, a bit like a magic mushroom.:augie
When I enquired about it with the Citroen main technician, he said it was to help
even out a vibration at certain revs...:doh

So what are the other "fixes" that you have heard about on other cars?

Is it true that Land Rovers now have an SOS button, to call for the AA or RAC which now locates their position so they can be found more quickly?
:lol:lol:lol

Actually, my son hired a Peugeot 508 the other day, and this had one, but it also had an automatic electronic hand brake...
How do you get the car going, with an electric brake, when say, you have parked down hill a few inches off a wall...

You have to put one foot on the clutch, one on the brake, then press a button on the dash to release it, whilst applying a little throttle with your third foot, to prevent it rolling forward...:doh:doh

OR have I missed something...
Do you just ignore the auto handbrake, and just reverse out...
Boy is this putting an extra strain on the clutch, brakes and transmission:eek:

Also what do you do on a hill start, holding it on the clutch for a short time is ok, but slipping the handbrake on and off works best.
Will the automatic brake, stop you rolling back, if so, this is often a point that driving examiners look for. So is it a cheat?

Something else to go wrong... expensive too I guess, as it will be controlled by the ECU:doh

mine did the same, drove me nuts :nenau,
i removed mine , pulled the platic trim panels off the side of the steering wheel and removed it with long nose pliers,
leave the ignition off to make sure you dont activate the airbag

if the air bag light comes on after you`ve removed it,
turn the ignition on and press the drivers door light switch 6 times , this will reset the airbag light

Feel like I'm in inception, a thread within a thread within a thread... :augie
