O Alex :doh :doh :doh :doh :doh

You need to goto Wales & let Pete sort you out with PROPER metal bumpers that look like there meant to be part of the 4x4 & not just cut up tubing / box section & RSJ :doh

NO OFFENCE TO RICK, his doing as instructed

I will have to educate you this coming Saturday 05/07/14 :augie

Make sure you check with your insurance company, theyll wriggle out of paying and leave you high and dry should you need to make a claim.

Should I need to make a claim :lol

I think I'll be doing the writing off :lol

But on a serious note I did inform them. They said the same thing and did not increase the policy atall :thumb2

Alex, if you like it, then that's what matters, as has been said, it your truck.
It's not my cup of tea, I like them in standard form and won't be doing any think so radical with my Terry. You get a lot of pleasure from it so carry on mate :thumbs

Thanks dude that's fair, I cant force people to like my bumpers. :lol

Me and rick did have this chat actually, I said something like "wait until I post these pics on the forum" but yeah, it's what you enjoy i guess :thumb2

They certainly work too! I reversed into a big bollard today that was hidden and it damaged the bollard, not the bumper :lol

Just remember bud if it's you at fault then even if you don't need to claim for damage, you'll still need to make a claim on your insurance for the other vehicle's damage. If anything having a steel bumper, particularly on the front, means you should be more careful, especially until you get used to the changed shape of the truck and it's new protrusions (especially that recovery point on the front of yours). I know I gave the odd car a gentle nudge when parking until I got used to the extra foot of winch bumper sticking out of the Trol's front end, my saving grace was the fact it has big rubber blocks on the front which meant there was no damage if I was being gentle (which I was).

Also until you have a winch in that front bumper you'll be breaking the EU regs and so subject to a few questions should you have an incident...

Saying that though I think the front bumper looks alright (and certainly a lot better than the rear one :augie) and it is your truck at the end of the day to do with as you will. Just don't hang about getting that winch bought and fitted so it comes under the "equipment" classification instead of the "frontal protection" classification like it does at the moment.

absolutely illegal  :doh :thumbs

If this is the case..

Well as long as you don't carry your family in the car, and only ever use the truck off road, I don't see any major problems.:nenau Great idea...:doh

BUT if you are going to use this truck on the public highway, then you have lost what little crumple zone that the original plastic bumper and it's inner steel reinforcement was providing.
Not much I know on these trucks, as they are not that good on NCAP to start with..:doh If ever they were tested... But Nissan must have done some testing:nenau.

What happens if a passenger in your car makes a claim for whiplash, due to the modification, should you be involved in the slightest bump, after all you have already damaged a bollard.:augie

Incidentally, have you informed the owner of the bollard, or have you driven away after causing damage...?
There are loads of cameras on car parks and on the street these days, easy to see which car did it.:nenau

I would also think that the sensitivity for the deployment of the air bags has now been changed too. The initial shock load direct onto the chassis, as apposed to the body taking the hit after the bumper deformed. After all where is the air bag sensor? I would have thought on the body, not the chassis.

I would have thought that the dynamics would have changed, but then I am no expert, just an engineer...:nenau

In addition... bull bars were made illegal from a certain date too, for a reason, due to serious pedestrian injury... Particularly to children... They should be renamed... skull crushers.

As a parent yourself, you know how unpredictable children can be, and can run across a road without warning.

"Marmite" more like "senocot", I'd be sh***ng my self every time I drove it...

Yes, expect a pull from the police, as it is... so my advice, always carry some cash for a taxi fare home.

Most importantly... keep both those plastic bumpers handy, as if/when the car is impounded, they might only let it go back on the road with the original bumpers on... You never know...:nenau

Re Winch bumpers, has anyone got any legal information...?
I can see the need for say the electric companies or similar, to have vehicles fitted with front winches, part of their daily job, but then these are classed as commercial vehicles.
Would you have to class a private vehicle as commercial in order to have one fitted?
Possibly not judging by the number of private off road vehicles out there, but does anyone actually know?

Blimey dude

I will be getting a winch fitted to the front v soon! Gotta sell my Tirfor too :(

Insurance company is informed too!

Having done some more research, which is hearsay, and not confirmed as law, but there seems to be a geneal concensus of opinion, that Winch bumpers can be legal, even though bull bars are not, as they don't have type approval in the UK.
Certain older vehicles that had bull bars fitted, could still be legal though.

The issue is that bull bars with a winch bumper are not legal, from the general consensus of opinion.
