What's the max size of tyre I can run on my Y61 without extra mods ?
It's got the standard alloys ....anybody know how wide they are ?
Stock tyre size was 265/70/16 but it's got 275/7016 BFG AT at the mo'
Previous owner changed suspension to OME so whilst not lifted it is a little higher than normal. Looking at the pic I think I've got room to fit larger tyres but I don't want to crunch anything if poss.

nice pic Geoff, dont know but a y61 is on my shopping list some watching thread with
interest. where was it taken please.

thinking Dadba got 35 BFG MT on his swb, think mild lift or lwb springs. got a pm from
him will have a look and update.

ok wasnt apm found under y61 tech section:

Dadba said "I've got approximately 3-4inch lift with the combo of uprated 4.2LWB springs and 35inch BFG's."

Yeah , I've seen Dadbas truck on here . It's well sorted but I'm not looking to take things that far .
Mine is pretty capable so far but the tyres look a little small IMO . I think the ones that are on equate to about 31" so I'm hoping for 32 or poss 33 without extra work .
Hopefully the BFG's would fetch a decent price to offset the upgrade.
The pic is in the Dales above Hawes with the Big Beast Camping and 4x4 club

Nice set of pics there Geoff - hats off to your daughter; she has a good eye - lots of foreground context and stuff.

And having brought my kids up mostly in the days before decent digital cameras, one thing I learned was, you can never take enough photos!

hi ya bensonsnuts

loving the pic, looks like you had a good day out no places like that down south were was that taken

I am running standard 17" Nissan Patrol Rims with 265/70R/17 General GrabberAT2 they
come up just under 32" with standard Ride height and suspension
I have at least 3" either side of the wheel so i could get 33-34 to fit. Let us no how u get on

think posted here on another thread, or elsewhere getting 33s with 2 inch lift but
does sound like would fit without mod by those figures Dave.

kumho do their attractive MT in 305/70 x16 which givess od of 33.1" rim 8-9.5" or
315/75 x16 with od 34.5" on 8-10" rim

ref'ed from

http://www.kumhousa.com/Tire_SizeChart.aspx?id=49

what width are standard alloys if supplied with 265/70 please.

Cheers Dave , I reckon 32" would cause no problems , but I think I would have to go 33" for it to be worthwhile . Even then I'm not sure it would be worth spending the money for what is effectively an extra inch of clearance ?
Have you got any details of your custom winch fitment ? That might be a better use of the money

what u need to know on winch
when getting my winch (last year at Eastnor castle Land rover Show)
Supper winch showed me there general winch tray which you cut down to fit between
the front rails behind the bumper and drill appropriately,
I Just Fabricated one out of 6mm and 8mm sheet steel and welded up before bolting into place, with legs to carry front winch fairlead in the front bumper
I Must admit to being a Engineer/fabricator for the steel industry years back.

will find the pic's and drawing if i still have them ill then start a new thread off.

Yep, I have exactly that too. No rubbing at all on full lock and full suspension compression.

Cheers

Tyre size

Try www.patrol4x4.com - an Aussie site and a goldmine of info. Think you'll find most people dont go much beyond 265/75 x16, which if my calculations are correct, will give you an extra 12.5 mm (6.25 mm x2) in tyre height on your present ones (not a great difference).

Some go to 285/75 which will increase your tyre height by 42.50mm (21.25 x2) but most seem to have a 2 inch lift and some still complain of fouling the mud flaps. 285/75's will look good but the main problem with the bigger tyres is that they appear to take too much off performance eg acceleration and braking affected.

Re your other question - think you'll find the rim width is 8 inch (well it is on my 16 inch steel ones).

Yes , I'm on the Aussie site . I try to keep an eye on the new daily posts for the Y61 but the search facility doesn't work too well and there is just too much info to wade thru !
I'm coming to the conclusion it won't be worth changing tyre size at the present . It certainly won't increase clearance dramatically unless I go to 35's and the accompanying lift etc .
I might still increase size slightly when it is time to replace them but mainly for cosmetic purposes
An 8" rim will give a decent choice of tyre .
I've seen the Aussie posts about loss of performance but I'm wary of trying to increase the performance of the ZD30 even though as an 03 mine should be ok :thumbs

If you have a pic of the tray you made and some fitted pics that would be great . I don't want to go too extreme and I'd prefer to keep the existing front end and not have to fit a winch bumper .
I understand TOR magazine fitted a custom mount to their Patrol , but I notice they have a winch bumper on there now .?

How did I miss this post:nenau

Right here' some sizes to compare

265/70 X16 = 30 1/2" diameter

285/70 x16 = 33"

305/70 x16 = 33"

I've just changed the springs on my Trol OME 20mm lift front and 30mm lift rear and my BFG AT's 265/70 x16's look a bit lost:augie

I've read that the 285's & 305's fit on a standard ride height Trol.
Some all so say they should be 33" as standard.

:thumb2

I went for 265/70/16's to 265/75/16's with OME 2" lift, ground clearance are much better

Looks good Fred, almost as big as my KL71s:lol
I fancy a Patrol like yours when I grow up:D

Hi Fred, I think your arches must be bigger on the 61 than the 60, Where did you get the lift kit from and what did it cost. Apart from the number plate the next mod is a snorkel or/and a lift.

Looking good.
Steve
