Quite interested in the concept of having my T2 upped in power and I mean really upped. Ideally would like to look at mods which would increase BHP to over 200bhp however not sure if this is at all possible. It isn't a car that I take off road so not too concerned about that or the fuel economy.

Any suggestions or am I dreaming and should just give up;)

There is a ceiling to the amount of fuel you can get into the engine that is imposed by the injector size & IP capacity.
That's why Makeitfit went down the route of additional LPG injection.

Ray, I take it that a ECU remap wouldn't adjust this by much then? Had heard that a turbo upgrade from a T25 to a T28 would make some difference??

There are folks on here that have had "re-maps" I'll let them comment on what was achieved, but it will be well short of 200bhp.
A bigger blower is fine, but you still go to get a commensurate amount of fuel to match the increase in air....

With 200bhp, it won't so much be a case of "blowing their doors off", so much as blowing your own doors off!!!

:lol

If, however, you do manage it, do let us know . That would be an interesting project thread.

Don't be put off though, someone did once say that man would never fly...

Standard is 125bhp & after a remap most see 150-155bhp but with a good induction kit mounted at the front (as it's going to be purely road use) & a good performance exhaust you should gain around an extra 10 bhp, a larger intercooler will help loads front mount for the best cooling but you will start to get some turbo lag, a bigger turbo & poss bigger injectors & remapping to suit all this I would guess you might get 170-180bhp but you will have to change the clutch as standard can't cope with that sort of power then there is LPG injection like makeitfit has done. But you will need to upgrade the brakes to drilled & grooved disc's. It could work out cheaper or the same to just drop a skyline engine in & have even more power

Interesting and rather expensive project thread lol

I've got a Powerchip on mine and run it on homemade Bio and getting about 140BHP (on setting 6) any higher and it just goes into a fit and won't accelerate

So if I have a maf amp and tuning box would they work together or is it a case of one or the other. Keep on looking at the power chips (plug and play) however not too sure which is best for performance and value for money. Anyone had both? I have a bosch set up with induction kit and possible OBD2 compliance. Well at least I think it's OBD2 compliant, I used a mates Torque OBD2 plug in and got readings back for speed/acceleration/fuel. I didn't get boost however that's not controlled by my ecu.
On a separate note does anyone know the maximum boost that we can put through the turbo without causing major issues?

Mines not an ODB2 jobbie mate, mine is a controller, (similar to the MAF Amp) it has multiple wires that piggyback onto the fuel pump wiring near to battery, and one that goes over to the MAF

I've got a picture, I'll upload it 2 ticks

I shall check under my bonnet in a minute and see what the sticker says. Strange that the obd2 reader was giving me data though.

I didn't take one of the MAF side for some reason

Hello again guys, thought id call back in..!!

Ok, I did a lot of development work to my truck when I had it and was maxxed out reliably at around 190hp & 360 ft lbs , and was at the limit of the stock internals really, since I had the HG go twice- the compression is too high for any more cylinder pressure. It made all the power between 1800 and 3800rpm as it just couldn't breath any higher. Clutches that wouldn't slip when it came on boost were abit of a problem which is why I eventurally went to the VGT turbo and ecu control. People said the gearboxes are weak but I never broke one. Desperately needed higher axle ratios as you were upto 4500rpm in 5th all the while!

Anyways I finished up with:

T28 then a GT2056 VGT turbo at 22psi.
2.5" exhaust with a custom elbow (factory one is the most limiting part)
Isuzu 3.1 nozzles.
Vp37 / 300TDI 10mm pump & head. A lot of work to this. £800!
Custom bar & plate top mount intercooler - wanted to keep the a.c !
Initially the standard 99 on ECU heavily remapped to suit the 10mm pump, then a bodylogic ecu for the VGT turbo.
HeavyDuty 3.0DI clutch and 6 puck plate, 2.7 flywheel machined to suit. D22 input shaft.

To be honest a decent remap, K&N filter and essentially a good exhaust with custom elbow and the T25 turbo doing 15psi will see 155bhp on a good engine is generally fast enough.

Tim..

Seems to me you should have got a petrol 2.4i The SX 240 (same engine) in the US is regularly pushed to well over 200bhp, Rick

Yo Timbo nice to see you here again. I had so much help from you a few years back :D I did the exhaust custom elbow. Also modded the turbo with bigger comp wheel.3.0 l clutch and bigger intercooler. Fell short of fancy ecu, pump and nozzles but did put LPG on instead :naughty Running a tunit II but would really like to remap the old 'ting. Do you know anywhere I can get the old ecu chipped ?
