Hi. First post, although I've been browsing for a few months.

My partner has a Maverick 2.7TD and it has been suffering a lack of power for a while, mainly at higher speeds (around the 50 mark). Today I went out in it and as soon as I put my foot down on the slip road to the dual carriageway it was completely flat as though the turbo wasn't kicking in and struggled to do more than about 35-40ish in fifth gear.

When I got it back onto the drive I noticed it was smoking quite heavily when pressing the accelerator. The smoke was white, which I think means a problem with the fuel supply?

The air filter was changed a couple of months ago and looks ok.
I've tried cleaning the mini fuel filter today (after reading a few threads here), although it didn't look particularly dirty.
I'll pick up a big fuel filter tomorrow and try changing that.

Any other suggestions/ideas of what the problem might be?

Thanks!

check under the drivers side rear wheel arch where the fuel lines run along the chassis.

Common area for the fuel lines to rust, Check my workshop manual I did in the download section.

Even if there is no leaks could still be a problem.

y'ello!

just to be clear, is it a square headlight model, or round?

Fuel filter could well be the problem, but also air filter. When changing fuel filter, make sure you fill it with diesel if you can first, then re fit, then prime it BEFORE starting the engine.

I would check the codes asap to try and determine the issue with the white smoke, but it could just be dirty fuel injectors (chuck in some fuel injector cleaner) and as you say, poor fuel supply.

White smoke is lack of diesel, or too much air. It'll be an air leak as Fez sez, or the mini filter. You didn't say if cleaning it made any difference.
When you change the fuel filter, fit clear pipes to and from it, then you'll be able to see any air bubbles, which will indicate a leak.
Pipes need to be 8mm internal diameter.

It is a square headlight model (L reg).

IIRC the fuel lines were replaced with flexible ones at the last MOT earlier in the year, but I'll have a look tomorrow. I'll also try changing the filter and adding some injector cleaner and see if that makes a difference.

Is there a guide to reading the codes? I have a reader for my Astra, but assume it won't be compatible with this?

It didn't seem to have made a difference when I took it for a quick (slow) spin afterwards.

I'll try the tip with the clear pipes if I can pick some up with the filter tomorrow.

if its l reg has it got a scoop in the bonnet if not it wont have any need for code reader as its too old:thumbs

Bet you a meter of clear pipe it's leaking air near the filter.

mini filter

Hi

My very first Maverick (L reg) had a virtually blocked mini filter, this caused it to have no go.
Located on the engine block behind the power steering pump is the mini filter.
These block up and cause power loss.
Go to the downloads to see a 'how to' on how to remove and clean.

I would be willing to bet a mince pie this is your problem.:thumbs

Cheers

OOPS!

Morning,

11Redex, well spotted, seems I cannot read..........sorry:(

Bet you a turkey leg he did that in the first post :sly

I think you might be owed a turkey leg! I took it to work this morning and it seemed to be running ok again. I've just taken it for a quick blast up the A1 and if anything it seems to be running better than it did before the problem. I guess it must have been the mini filter and the drive I did last night wasn't long enough to clear out any dodgy fuel still in the engine? I did pick up a fuel filter today, but I think that can wait until Saturday (so I can see what I'm doing) now.

Cheers all :)
