Is it just my motor, or are Terrano/Maverick front shocks quite soft?

I ask, because I reckon mine have had it; I pulled into a parking spot yesterday passing over a ramped pavement, and when I stopped, the front end bobbed up & down and rocked side-to-side a little (the latter bit, I thought, maybe the tyres giving a little)...a little disconcerting, and also slightly sea-sickening!:(

Got a new pair on price-request as I write, but I'd like to know if I might be wasting money if they're supposed to be soggy...:rolleyes:

No should be standard 'bounce once and return'.

But just check your droplinks are still connected to the front ARB as well, just in case.

Push down the front bumper in the middle, release, the vehicle should rise up then settle in the normal position.

If it carries on bouncing they are shot.
Sometimes only one side has gone but replace the pair anyway.

Cheers, chaps! That's what I thought - bounce & return just once; these are more like a kid on a bedspring...

The droplinks are fine, by-the-way;

I've been told new shock price from my mate in Unipart are 28.95 each, so I've ordered a pair...though the first job is to get the locking wheel-nuts cracked-off by my local tyre firm (the dork who last owned the Mav' "forgot" to leave the nut driver in the motor...)

Thanks again, guys...

Regarding locking wheel nuts, as quite often i lose mine, a suitable 20m socket allied to a good big hammer will generally unlock them, though remembering where you put the correct key in the first place is generally accepted as a good thing.

I didn't forget where it was BIGSEAN - the previous owner accidentally-on-purpose "forgot" to leave it in the Mav' when he...was relieved of its ownership, by a creditor... No problem, though - I'll give it a good whacking this weekend... ;-)

Right - that's the security wheel-nuts loosened! A 19mm socket & long t-bar, a two-pound ball-pein hammer, one or two decent "persuasive taps" - job done! (Cheers for the socket tip, BIGSEAN! ;-) ).

Next job - the front shock absorbers (hope the nuts & bolts aren't seized)...

good luck with the shocks, mine were sized, even with wd40, anti sieze freeezer spray, no joy didnt have a blow torch, nor a nut splitter, my dremil would'nt work, angle grinder to big to fit, arh.....if all else fails flat hardended screwdriver and hammer......job done, take care Russell

Oops! A few problems, then, Kwondo? Hate to tease you, mate, but mine came out very easily, despite the top studs being quite rusty. Lucky, I suppose...:nenau

Cheers for all the advice here, folks! Job Done! :thumbs
