Thinking of upgrading my 95 mav, i have noticed a few petrol mavericks at good prices around about 02 plates.
Do these have the hi lo box? also are they the same as the terrano or did ford drop the terrano version and create their own as it looks very different.
Any comments on them in general such as build qualty reliability and mpg.
Or shoud i go with a terrano.
Anyone selling anything.

i'd stick with the terrano type maverick or a terrano. the t2 maverick type go up to about 1998/1999.
After that they are very different.

the terrano 2 goes up till 2006 but becareful as at 2006 it goes in to the £410 bracket:augie

when i bought my mav it was because it was cheeper than same yr terrano (1997) that was only reason! but as plank an fez say its the t2 shape you want!

check this out, i looked up an 06 on the DVLA site and it didn't :nenau

and i have seen an 07 plate :thumb2

Terrano it is then, which do you reckon is the best bet the 2.7 or 3.0, seems to be a few 3.0 around, are they much heavier on the juice or any other downsides, i dont need the extra pulling power but if theres a bargain 3.0 id be tempted.

when mavs stop looing like terranos that the time to stop buying em.

different truck, mazda under neath, perhaps best compared with a freelander.

2.0 or 3.0 petrol, front wheel drive, then lock in rear axle electronically.

no low box, no seven seat option. ok truck, but well not a nissan.

decent soft roader, as they go, but a terrano2/r20 is an off roader.

3.0l more power and better on juice, its down to budget and availbility!

err having a laugh,

cameramans 3.0 litre mav towing a 14foot caravan 12mpg.

thats why he sold it, loved it couldnt afford it, ok went bit
to far with a series 2 disco, when a troll would have done...

the tributes being built for yank market, are all petrol, suitably thirsty.

the mazda ford mav had another name in states, escape maybe.

I personally would get the 2.7l, from what I have read it's stronger.

But I have never owned a 3.0, so can't say for sure.

3.0 is definitely more economic - 32mpg combined - and engine sorted since it was in the Troll. But all the ones I looked at had done some seriously heavy towing which is what I guess attracted buyers at new. Including one where the i/c scoop (which seems to be a plastic insert on the 3.0 not a moulded part of the metal bonnet) has melted FFS....the salesman said it had barely towed - until I found the twin horsebox instruction book in the glovebox and wiped the stupid retard grin off his face....tw@t :doh

I went to look at a 3.0 terrano yesterday, it was tidy and i was impressed with it, just got to try and justify the £4700 he wants for it.
It was an 02 with 60k 3 months warranty, fsh and 12 months mot and serviced, i thought it was a fair price what do you reckon.

Its a dealer price, what can you say - needs knockin down around 800 IMHO. And they are obligated to warrant for six months, no idea where they get this three months bollox from :doh

only thing with the zd 3.0 is the booked repair times.

to do head gasket on 2.7 is just under 7 hours, on
3.0 nearer 13 hours. parts be about same but clearly
labour is going to shoot up. ok worst case scenario
but second hand motors are going to need work as
time progresses.

now if the remap discussed other day on 2.7 is as
good as its print out, then maybe modding 2.7 is
way to go.

also 2.7s at mk2 stage were group 10, then start
to rise, to 12? the 3.0s are gp 14.

swings and roundabouts costs wise....
