Gutted, just seen on BBC News website that Maplins is about to go bust unless a buyer is found. Great shop but in fairness I only go for little bits and pieces every now and then which I suppose most people do the same. It’ll be a real pity if that shop goes, as bad as Wollies going.:doh

R.F.Potts of Derby for me!

Yeah there was quite a bit in the Business news a couple of weeks ago the possible demise of Maplins .

Luckily in Derby we have RF Potts of Babington Lane they have been going since I was a boy. I built my first Crystal Set and later a Transistor Radio with parts from them.

The two brothers who run the shop are in their late 60's 70's now so not sure how long they will keep it going for.

They used to sell Army Surplus Radios & Oscilloscopes back in the 1960's and diversified into Tools, Audio, Telephones and anything Electronic or Electrical. They now do a lot of used PC stuff too. It is a brilliant little shop not self serve you just tell them what you want or show them your old part and they find one usually from stock.

Bad news about Maplins, but like you Jim only use them for small bits, Rick

Sad Sad news, great place to be able to pop into while shopping on the weekend and grab some capacitors etc
