Major Turbo Whistle

Whenever I give it some wellie I get a loud whistle from the exhaust 3000rpm up.
Now some of you might be thinking how high (RPM's) but I don't get any turbo boost until 2500 rpm. It would be nice if the boost came in at 1500.

So what's the normal Boost RPM for a 96 Maverick TDI and why the whistle (by the way its not your usual TDI whistle... it makes heads turn!!)

My dads freelander used to whistle lots when he had shit fuel from like morrisons etc.

is the whistle definately from the exhaust?? Its just a while back, my I/C pipes were not tight, and this caused a very audible whistle.

as for boost, as far as I know, boost comes in at around 2/2.5k rpm...

Major Turbo Whistle Update

I've changed the MAF sensor and thats sorted the turbo boost, it now comes in at 1500rpm and peaks a 2500...Nice. But the LOUD whistle is still there???, whiped off the intercooler and checked all over including pipes, all seems OK.
A nice day so had all windows and sunroof open, sounds like the whistle (2700rpm up) is behind me and to the left (near side). exhaust???
Any one else get this???

mine did the same, cracked intercooler, might be worth getting it pressure tested :thumb2
