also does battery need disconnecting to reset the ecu, feel read somewhere it
learns old maf characteristics?

Don't know about the Terrano but I know that the Aussie Trol Reference Doc suggests disconnecting the battery for 20 mins to reset the ECU after doing anything engine related -

This reset allows the vehicle to start back at factory defaults and re-learn its engine set up accordingly. As a matter of course I will do this every time my vehicle has been serviced at a dealer and it always performs smoother and quieter than when I receive it.

sounds like good advice, although I think after a few miles the ecu will pick up any mods anyway and re learn, but disconnecting the battery could make it learn sooner, and just as a reminder do not try and clean a Bosch MAF, Rick

I honestly cannot remember, Rick or Ray should be along to let us know though.

Have you inspected your maf? does the plate inside look filthy?

the maf housing has a grill each end, though the one from ebay has it only on
airbox end. went to local motor factor, only torx 5 they had looked more like a 6
and in a big kit for 20 quid so gave it a miss. bought a new maf n housing from
them instead for 58 quid.

the ebay one is better than original, but had a flat spot too so thinking start new.

seems isnt bosch but is recommended one, bosch was out of stock, and was
mention of a very cheap one.

thinking has warranty see how it goes.....

hi, to bump this.

which wires/pins are used to read the maf voltage.

indeed what are they all for/coded.?
Pin1 NOT USED (would have been for air flow temperature)
Pin2 +12V - Yellow
Pin3 Ground - Green/Red
Pin4 +5V Ref - Red/Blue
Pin5 MAF output Blue/White

Approximate Output voltages from an operational MAF:
Ign on, engine not running ~1V
engine at idle ~ 2.2V
engine at 3000 RPM ~ 4.5V

You can easily press a small sewing pin into the wire to check the voltage.

There is just enough land around the base of the torx screw to ease it out with a decent pair of pliers, then replace with normal self tappers.

You can give it a NON contact clean with with PCB cleaner, Maplin do one:

This will remove the oil deposits caused by oil mist entering the air intake after the engine is shut down.

understand that the maf for the later 2.7 and 3.0 are the same but differ from
earlier 2.7,
further that the older maf doesnt suit the newest trucks.

does this apply in reverse, or will the older trucks take the newer maf.

what has changed between the early mk 4 and late mk4.

believe have located a bosch vauxhall maf, atleast insert though in wrong housing
for older models. typically 50 quid as against 100 for one listed as terrano bosch.

neatly the vauxhall ones do say for t2 upto 2002

vauxhall id 9193149

oddly says is for various corsa and astras of 1.2litre!
