I have a spare hitachi Maf I will check it on my bench tomorrow. They are very reliable just need a clean now and again. The usual test is to unplug it and see if the the running is worse. Why do you think that it is faulty? Regards. Bri

maf test

Hi all i want to test maf as i am working my way round fault diagnostics as car is running bad thought i had found fault when i couldnt get any resistance values on no1 injector but have since found that my one (a zexel injector) can not be test iaw manual as its a piezo syle as opposed to inductive coil. So checked crank position and all is good, disconected fuel supply and run engine direct from can (to rule out fuel lines) and it seems to run but you have to continually prime the primer bulb to ensure no fuel starve. Thought might be something on injection pump but this is the most expensive item if it has developed a fault. I have checked the filter/gauze in pump and i dont have one fitted. Any help welcome as i am nearly done withit now but breaks my heart to see car sent to breakers. Oh yeah and i have the hitachi maf.

if you have a short none leaking pipe from test can to filter and you need to press the prime bulb to keep the fuel flowing then either you have an air leak between filter and pump or the pump is naff, Rick

if the pump is naff its only the lift pump in side as it will run ok if u keep the fuel pressure up at this point in stead of replacing the pump y dont the op fit an inline electric pump then happy days as they r around £40 :thumbs

sounds good! but does it work? great if it does, but the metering orifice on the return will be deigned to keep the pressure stable re the rate the internal pump pumps, we all know what happens when this orifice/filter gets dirty, I cannot profess to know all the details of this system as I only have had one a few months, but I think there is more to it than meets the eye, Rick
