Maf help please

I have a hitachi maf sensor on my terrano 2 on a 2000 plate,
Should it make a difference when I unplug it thanks in advanced

Unlpug it and you wont be able to rev the car at all past tickover

If there is no difference between plugged in & unpluged the maf is totally shot:doh

On tick over there is no difference and would this cause the engine to cut out when I put it into drive because the revs are too low
