just been out in the t2 and on my way back i had to pull in behind some parked cars and let the on coming traffic pass.as i pulled up and let off the throttle the t2 felt like it was going to stall and was shaking on tickover.got back home and had a quick look at all the leads and plugs and they all look fine.doesn't seem to be missing just sounds rough.its a 2.4 petrol with 128 k on it.it sounded like the exhaust had gone really loud but not blowing anywere as i can see.maybe the cat is on its way out and was partially blocking the system.went for a drive around the block and it seems fine now.is it a warning sign that something is gonna give?any ideas anyone?

Bag of nails

CLEANED THE MAF,WELDED THE CRACKED MANIFOLD,BLOCKED OFF THE EGR,CHECKED AND CLEANED THE PLUGS,ROTOR AND DIZZY AND ITS STILL THE SAME..............:nenau:nenau
PROBABLY MEANS IVE GOT TO SPEND SOME MONEY THEN:(:(

running o.k

been out and had a tinker with the t 2 and its running fine again now:nenau
no obvious cause or remedy it just started running fine again.
took the dizzy off and rotor arm all looked o.k.cleaned it and put it back on and it made no difference.had a poke about with the egr valve and it made no difference.
checked the fuel filter and fuel lines made no difference.
then it just started to tick over as sweet as anything.went for a drive and all is well.:thumb2
obviously there was something not right but at this moment in time it remains a mystery:confused::confused:

yes its sorted for the moment.no obvious cause or remedy.i have a sneaking suspision that it was the egr valve that had stuck.had a poke about with it yesterday and so far so good.did just over 100 miles round trip today and it never missed a beat.

good good do you still have centre console and the fan vents out the dash of the one you broke?

i think i have still got them:nenauwill have to have a dig through the shed and get back to you.

Wasn't some dodgy fuel then Mate ?

Lee. :nenau

to be honest i cant say 100% what it was as i tried loads of different things and none seemed to have any effect.
i came in the house for a warm and a brew and left it for about 30 mins.
went back out to try again, started her up and she fired first turn of the key and has been fine since(touch wood)
bit the bullet and drove to lincoln to see my cousin and it never missed a beat.

Elty I think your truck just wanted a day off:D

it doesn't really do that much anyway so maybe that was part of the problem.it just needed a good run out.short runs in cold weather are not really a good combination.

ever since i had some running problems over xmas my motor seems to be really smoking.
not blue like its burning oil but very smokey.
have a sneaking suspision the cat might be on its way out.
or possibly getting ready for new valves.
any ideas/advice anyone:nenau

I wonder if your valve steam seals have hardened up & leaking a bit of oil into the bores.

Sounds familiar

Hi Elty I have still got probs like that on mine!
Sometimes the tickover drops to about 300rpm.
Never actually misses but does go limp:eek:
You mention the cat and poss failure or blocking, any ideas how to test?

was gonna nip up to the local exhaust place and see if i can scav a peice of tubing and take the cat off and see what happens.
used to de cat my escort and just put it back on for mot.
