I wanted to change the oil's in my 1994 Nissan TerranoII. Just looked in the owners manual (which btw is in german :( ) and surprise --- two type of oil specified for rear diff - for LSD rear diff and for nonLSD rear diff.
Question - how can I know if it's a LSD ?

I'm appologies for my ignorance, I own the car only since august.

Your hand book has me puzzeled as far as I know all T2's have LSD rear axels :? I would have a look on the rear of the diff as you may be lucky & find a little sticker on there under the muck (I did) with LSD on it. If not I would jack only one reae wheel off the ground & see if it will turn freely, if it won't & seems to be locked then I would think you have a LSD fitted  but i'm sure someone will be along to give you better advise

Spot on Neil - truck needs to be out of gear and in 2wd to do this test but other than that spot on.

My understanding was that the best check (though I have to admit that I haven't actually tried it) is to jack up both rear wheels, under the diff - and then turn one wheel in the forward direction. If you have a LSD the other wheel will rotate in the same direction as the wheel you turn.

Cheers

andrewk, thats what i was told ages ago too. normaly it would turn the other way.

Not everyone has a trolley jack to do that though, the one wheel method workd fine too - unless the brake is bound on on that side.
