i did a bit of reading on this an apparently GL5 is not suitable for anything with 'yellow metal' components, the difference is a lot of sulphur in Gl5 and not in GL4. as i understand it the two are quite different and should not be mixed up - i hope this has helped someone.

on the bright side i ordered LS oil (comma) for my diff today at £3.33 per litre :thumb2

I plan to fill it with non LSD oil first (we have loads of that) run it up for a minute on the ramp then drain it again to flush all the old stuff out then refill it. I am going to do the front diff at the same time.

next job, get some gl4 for the transfer and gear boxes.

Would it be ok to put LSD oil in there anyway, even if it isn't a lsd diff? Apart from being a bit dearer, is there that much difference?
All this jacking things up, with my back?

thanks for the advice, the wheel turning test shows it is definitely limited slip and the help of a friend holding one wheel still proved that it's slip is limiting nicely!

It is a bolt on through the rear type and holds 1.8 litres, trouble is I ordered 3 and so now i have a spare litre :doh

I also striped and cleaned the back brakes.

It seems to be a lot smoother in bends and tight corners now, it might be my imagination of course but I'm still happier now it's done :thumb2

LSD

If you ring any Nissan dealer and give them your registration number they can look on their computer and tell you if it's a LSD or not. Some cars have LSDs, some don't, it isn't particular to a model eg if you have a 4.2 litre diesel Y60 it may or may not have an LSD. Nissan dealers can tell you (although you may have to bully them a little bit to make them look it up).

Oil

Simples, ring Opie oils - don't forget to tell them you are a member here, you will get 10% off, oh, and if you spend more than £100 they deliver for free too. The handbook gives some guidance, but is incomplete for some reason, and for volume often states "fill until full" - which is not really very helpful at all is it?

Probably written by a 'belle femme sans merci" LOL

But the Troll is a bit different isn't it...all the Terranos/Mavericks have an LSD but I assume the Troll is either LSD or diff locker but not both?

Yes, totally and utterly barking mad, thanks. Don't try to help me, I'm very happy here, the voices keep me company...

Engine, gearbox, transfer box and diff - £100 + easy, the Y60 cost more!
