toying with the idea of getting an lpg set up on my 2.4 petrol.i know hb had one on his mav.just wondered what was involved and if i could run on lppg whilst out laning as ive heard there isnt as much engine tourque running on lpg :?

Torque wise it was always fine, every now and then it back fires (down the inlet) when using really low revs, I just tend to be 1 gear down on all the diesels when moving around I'd say. With a conversin you can always flick it back to petrol for a few minutes if you feel you need to but can't say I ever do.

Not sure I'd have one converted at the moment, no guarentee the tax break on LPG will last so unless you do a lot of miles it may never pay back. You could always buy mine  and either sell yours or cobble all the bits off mine onto yours and ten flog mine again as a petrol truck - be cheaper tan buying a conversion kit.

I havent had a discernable difference on LPG in any vehicle, I have never ran a mav on LPG but many others in fact one or two even seem a little more powerfull on gas.

If your serious about it drop us a PM my son in law is an LPG converter and I am sure could do a decent price for members.

just putting the feelers out at the mo had a look on a site earlier and it would have cost me 2 grand to have it done by them :? only paid a grand for this motor so if its gonna cost me a fortune then its not really worth it.also a friend of mine has bought the 2.7 tdi engine ,box, exhaust, fuel tank, ecm, wiring from the one that i'm breaking to swap into his petrol.nothing wrong with the engine as far as i know just want more mpg.trying to work out the cheaper option.lpg or deisel engine. :?

ps thanks for the offer plank.

LPG LPG no doubt IF that is you do any sort of mileage. I've been doing the same research and have the following observations.
Sequential LPG injection for the 2.4 is £399 off ebay. Thats brand new front end only. Its absolutely brill. I've met up with a guy doing the conversion. It has laptop connection and software inc. and copies your exist management first, then duplictes it on gas . You can even set it to automatically switch back to petrol over a certain rev limit if you want. He's just done a 4 litre jeep and thats going better now than before. You can easily equate to a 40% saving on petrol
As for the tank you can do the easy version and stick it in the boot or if you need the space ,sling it under neath. Gas tanks and straps about £150/250 depending on size. If you go underneath you can get a proper replacement petrol tank for about £175.
Then fit a 65 litre gas tank along side it. You will have plenty of ground clearance for regs too. Just had mine checked out.
If you really want to go cheap the red c/h gas bottles can be "pumped" into your tank and then its about 39p a litre (dont tell customs and rxcise though)
System is totally safe and any fault detected or crash or wot not triggers the safety solenoids shutting off the gas.
Need more info PM me as I'm done typing now good luck

Unless your man has found a supplier no one else knows about the side by side tank system under the floor only works for the LWB - theres just no room for the SWB hence my under drivers seat (below floor) 20L tank

Good point HB I'll ask him tomorrow. I was just about to order it too!
Phew.
Meanwhile here's the item no off ebay for the front end anyway 320304477066
Hope that helps.
Note to self...check it fits, not "makeitfit", hey ho............... -readmanual-

If it was Autotanks he was using they used to list for SWB and LWB but I enquired a few months back and they removed the SWB from website.

8O Auto tanks you say :| think it was curse it -banghead-

just as a matter of interest not realy on thread, but i once took an lpg system off a 'dead' talbot van and fitted it on my LDV it took me a day and ahalf trial and error etc but i ran it for around 5 years and the whole job cost me about £60, LPG isnt rocket science and there are realy no nasty suprises! It is only the conversion cost and pump price to consider first!

 Thanks HB I checked today and as usual you're quite right it's only for the LWB
Anyway the second idea is to get one of those rally fuel tanks and strap it on like yours. There're not expensive and that will allow a decent size LPG tank underneath.
I'm again in your shadow.
Cheers

I bought an LPG swb of ebay for £500 with a noisy gearbox and silicon sealed sunroof! Gearbox needed new main bearing set, so i got a new clutch done at the same time. Rear drop link arms, clutch cylinder and drivers window mech. Cost £800 but I will save that in 12 months driving at 52p per litre.

Power is better, with a quicker accelerator response. Fuel econ. is about 20mpg. I have a 70 litre tank in the boot which takes up the whole boot!

I didn't have to pay for the install so I was lucky, I guess, but I still have to shell out £800 to fix it...

some intresting reading to be had on this subject.going to have a look at a set up on a bloke at works range rover.he did his a few years ago and has never looked back since.tried to sell it me :? if it could be made to fit could be an option.he wants 500 quid for it with no tax and mot.think i might get in trouble with the mrs if i buy it.had enough greif with the t2 being stripped and taking up half of the drive.could always tell her its the shell of the t2 and keep a cover over it

lpg every time i bought mine converted i used to have a diesel pajero this costs half the price of that to run and that was only a 2.5 as an idea it cost me 98 quid to fill the paj and i got 660km from the tank 1 tank @ 35 quid in the patrol gets 418 km x2 = 836km x3 = 1254 or in old english 780 miles for 100 quid ok so it looks horrendous on mpg terms and costs and i have spent an extra tenner there in that demo but my figs are based purely on town driving mixed in with towing my tin tent which weighs 1.2 tons but i am driving a 4.2 and besides its a trol  and again if you work out the paj cost that would equal 2 tankfulls @ 98 quid for the same milage thats half the price! and am sure on a run with no caravan the troll will do much better

Just bought a '97 LWB 2.4i with the cylindrical tank behind the rear seats which is not ideal, so I may be looking to change this before the holiday season next year as we like to go camping and need the room.

In the meantime I am trying to learn as much as possible about lpg. So far the car seems to run OK'ish...seems a little down on power. If I just trundle around at low revs it is fine but to accelerate I need to change down a gear or two to get the revs up. Also on auto it changes over to gas too soon so I have to switch this manually.

Not sure about the economy yet but as I do mainly motorway work at 55-60mph I think it should be pretty good. I used to get 33mpg out of my old Diesel Mav 2.7TD week after week and I think no-one on here believed me!

33? your right , in the words of victor meldrew 'i dont beleive it!'

now knotting pot would have told us the truth he was a decent sort

Hi Plank, how's things? Nice to be back. My mpg went down dramatically after I had the MT's fitted though...I never saw 33mpg again!

I'm fine thanks, i trust you are too?

I have now reached a stage where i sacrifice chunky tyres for MPG i have too many exspensive hobbies ( well the kids do any way) and have to save money where ever possible :(

I am very well thanks, better now I am back in a proper size car again!

Hopefully the LPG will help with the fuel costs and smooth tyres too.

Sorry Elty I dont wish to hijack this post...
