As said earlier, high/low has nothing at all to do with your auto box, they are two separate entities, if you have all your gears in high and can select 4 wheel in high then why worry about low, you do not need it, unless you plan on towing a jumbo jet, Rick

Sorry mate, no jumbo towing for you now :augie :lol

I searched google franticly but could not find a suitable pic of a 4x4 towing a jumbo (only a toureg) :p

I'm off tomorrow with a bit of luck so will spend some time but to be honest I don't have a clue, l love driving the terrano but I'm no macanic so might take a bit longer than normal

Just take your time and have a play. It's a lovely feeling when you manage to do something yourself and believe me I get twitchy about doing stuff on mine :lol

Just been out and started the truck and now got all gears just crunching a bit when selecting 4low but once it's in I have drive so could it be still low on fluid, wondering if it's got the right dip stick and I don't mean the driver

did you work the selector through all gears ..... d , n , r 1, 2 etc a few times before checking atf level ? , also did you check hot or cold ?

Yes mate it says cold on the stick next to the first notch, but says nothing near the second notch so assuming that's the hot

Don't think it's your gearbox grinding when trying to get it in low. It'll be the transfer box but it doesn't mean it's low on oil, cos I've changed mine and it does that too. But if you haven't changed the transfer box oil, I'd do that now.

doesn't it say in the manual ? ......... im sure it does :thumb2
